Either way, wish more effort was going into gameplay fixes and additional storylines rather than more kewl stuff to sell people.

The people who make gameplay fixes and the people who make additional storylines aren't the people who make art assets.

BTW, they're hiring for all three; if you know somebody who's good at those things tell them to apply.

Yes, but it's not hard to figure out why people say this. If they have 10 developers, and 5 work on new content, and 5 work on stuff for the C-Store (which is generally only available by paying extra for it), it means they could redistribute it and take more people off of the C-Store items in order to either release more content/bug fixes faster, or more of them.

This would be true, if programmers were developing the art assets, artists were doing the mission design, and mission designers were doing the code. But they're completely different skillsets, and the people doing them are people who were hired for their skillsets.

coderanger doesn't do art assets, he's a programmer. Gozer doesn't do code, he's a mission designer. Matt doesn't do mission design, he's an artist. Trust me, you don't want coderanger designing art assets, Gozer doing code, or Matt doing mission design. It's not what they're good at, and it's not what they were hired to do.

takes coding to do the art design, no? At the very least, the guy designing uniform packs or ship exteriors would be better spent designing art for the MISSIONS. If he can design other shit, why can't he take that same skill and design new maps? Maybe we could have more than 3 kinds of alien base? If it's not being used for new missions, go back and remaster more old missions with new interiors.

If it's that they've got these art guys with no other skill sets, and can only do shirts and ships, then they've royally screwed up and overhired one type while underhiring the people that actually can improve the game for members already paying.

Real answer is likely that they've already GOT my money, so they're putting emphasis into getting money from OTHER sources (or more of my money for extras) rather than giving me more content for money I've already given them...

Graphic artists use graphic design programs. they are not as a general rule programmers. They don't make maps or missions either. Although they would most likely make objects (ships and the like) that the people who make missions could place in mission maps.

I don't know why you would even think that graphic artists would cross train in programming or vise versa.

A company would hire specialists who are good at their specialty and then place them in teams to do specific jobs. Do you work in a corporation?

They most certainly have not screwed up in hiring. They have a small staff and are increasing their workforce but for an MMO Cryptic is working at lightning speed. Lord knows Blizzard would take years to accomplish what Cryptic has in only a couple of months.

If you want to find out about these guys' backgrounds and skillsets, come join us in the IRC channel and talk to them. The art guys don't come in very often, but we've got QA guys, programmers, and community folks quite often.

Wow, just to give a taste of how the devs care and listen I post this link:

http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=206751

It is a thread where Gozer talks about him looking into the bugged Terradome mission and his goal to make it playable again.

It took awhile but let me say I look foward to attempting it again with a winning chance.
As most people I abandoned it completely when it got bugged to the current level.

Now it looks like it may be a new task for the fleet to achieve and a much needed break from to many Borg! :bolian: :borg:

Nice. And if I understand it correctly the holodeck is an object to be summoned on the other map, not the proper way around?

Basically; that lets you have a map larger than your holodeck, and still end on the holodeck even if they're halfway across the map.

Mapolis is, however, working with the programmers to package their "teleport the player around the map" functionality for Foundry use. This way is better, though, because TPing you would trigger a loading screen.

Gozer has announced on the STO Forum his Terradome changes are ready to be released onto Tribble. It will happen during the week sometime.

It boils down to this:
He has removed about 30% of the Undine mobs in the underground caves.
There is a new spawn point outside the Boss' room, so if you die you don't have to make it all the way through the cave again.
If you fail to kill the boss and the team gets wiped it will reset right away like Infected's boss room.
The Save Sulu objectives has been removed. Sulu is still there, but it will resolve automatically and Sulu just watches the fight. Apparently this was causing the actual breaking of the mission. Cause it could result in a fail after which you have to leave the map and come back 15 minutes later which again results in the whole map resetting.

As soon as the release date says when the change goes live I will set up our first fleet run for it. Also if you guys like we can test play the mission on Tribble and help with the feedback to make it better for Holodeck release, if there are still issues with it.

I just finished replaying Ghost Ship, and the more I think about it, the more this theory pops into my head:

Are the Romulans responsible for bringing the Devidians back into the picture? We know that the Romulans are investigating any and all technology that might put them back on top, like the Borg, and thaleron (and Iconian).

During the part of the mission where you have to seek out and fight the Hirogen ships, they're in four locations spread across the debris field. When you have to close the Devidian portals, both the portals (and Romulan ships) are in the same locations as before, and the Romulan ships appear to be guarding them. And then there's the D'deridex warbird at the end that your science officer discusses, and how it's "energy dissipated" and that it might have been a ship full of Devidians.

Just some food for thought.

IMHO the Iconians are behind all of it; the Borg foothold in the Beta Quadrant, the Devidians' return, Sela's rise in power, the whole shebang.

Oh, I have no disagreement there. It was just something I had never really thought about until after I had finished all of the Iconian-related missions and started really looking at the mission Ghost Ship.

At the moment we can expect the foundry going live soon, the remastered P'Jem mission, season 4 with several major updates to gameplay (ground combat among other things).

I wouldn't count on new episodes, featured or otherwise for the next 2-3 months.

After that the ambition is to increase the release of featured episodes though.

Yep, the last engineering report said that they were going to try for up to ten featured episodes a year, (That's nearly a new mission every week!), but that it wouldn't happen before Season 4 goes live.
