Star Trek: Online

Well they have made some good progress so far with the year anniversary coming up. Is it perfect yet? Hardly, but look how long EVE has been out, so STO has a long way to go to be the perfect Trek game!!! I may as bite the bullet and buy the lifetime sub. Perhaps after my sub runs out in June.

I just recancelled my sub after re-subscribing over Christmas. It's just SOOO boring! Fly here. Fight some ships. Beam down. Kill a ludicrous amount of Klingons. Beam up. Fight another ship. Repeat. God! If the story was compelling it might force me to grind through all this horror, but a lot of the dialogue is really awful, to boot. Gave up in frustration. Gah. Could have been so good.

Yeah, I just re-upped for this month to see the improvements... They're all superficial. This game is still mediocre at best and I'll be cancelling after my month is up.

Have you guys played the weeklies? Those seem to be the most interesting missions yet.

I just ordered DC Universe Online so will be splitting my time between the two. I havn't played STO in 4 months and find myself craving it. I'm telling you, the weeklies are the best thing about STO right now, give them a try!

The first series envolves the Breen, and can be obtained by an Ambassader in the sector above the DS9 sector. (It has been a while since I did the first set, perhaps others here will guide you, or check the home page or forums for more info on them.) The second series envolves the Devidians and a little time travel and a spooky mission! Look for a special TOS guest or two! :) Third series coming the end of this month will envolve the Romulans.

There are five weekly missions per series. The new ones comes out once a week, thus "weeklies". Of course, since you are starting with the first and 2nd, you will be able to do all 5 as you finish one. You do get some cool rewards for finishing them. It is really cool doing them as they come out as you have a week to "rest" (i.e do other things whilst waiting for the next one, so you don't burn out) and wait till the next Saturday for the next episode! Really feels like you are playing an episode of the show!

All of the weeklies have been great. i am really looking forward to the Romulan weeklies.

Hey guess what I found out the T5 Excelsior you can get in STO does sometimes? here's a hint.

Hmmm interesting, thanks!

That sounds like a laundry list for 2011! I doubt we'll have all this by the 2nd anniversary, Feb 2nd 2012! Clearly STO has a LONG way to go.... The weeklies are designed to keep us interested and occuppied while they work on this stuff.

Remember last week I mentioned that Dan hinted at an expansion to the dev team?

New job postings on the Careers page, including programming and content design.

I've read that the Terran Empire has been restored in STO. Did Vulcans feel the new Empire's wrath because of Spock's actions?

I don't think so, though I can't remember seeing any Vulcans as part of the Terran Empire teams (just a bunch of humans and the occasional Andorian, really), but the STO wiki (taking it with a grain of salt, and thinking they may have based the information off of the series and the ST wiki, Memory Alpha) has the following as "members":

Terrans
Andorians
Benzites
Betazoids
Bolians
Saurians
Tellarites
Trill
Vulcans

According to what I remember in the game, they've gone full circle, back to the way things were around TOS, ie evil dictatorship counterpart to the UFP. (there are Mirror Luna-class ships, for example).

Not really. I am not sure what their story is, they just seem to be there, being an annoyance. As if the Feds needed ONE more hostile race attacking them!

Ain't that the truth! The Federation is literally surrounded by hostile powers.

Well, I played through the Breen episode and I have to admit I actually had fun. There was some mission diversity, the little puzzle on the Preserver ruin was a neat touch, I liked the medical triage mission with an interrogation, and just overall it was a pretty positive experience. I'd give it a B, seeing as the writing still seems to be done by 4th graders who watched a few episodes. I'm still not sure that it brings the overall game up much higher than a C+, but it'll keep me around long enough to try out episode 3.

Dang, how cool would it be to work with them?? Too bad I don't know anything about programming! lol Art however... I was a Graphic Designer!

Yep, like I said, those weeklies are a step in the right direction. Are you doing Episode 2 yet? I heard that is the best one so far! I havn't played it yet, but am dying too!

Really? Never had an issue with transwarp myself, though I seldom used it since I was in the Romulan sectors and the transwarp doesn't take you to the Alpha Centauri Block.

Not yet - I may today once my WoW dailies are done, but there's a lot of good football on this afternoon so I may just watch that too.
