I don't suppose you still have the beta key. Or is that a one time use thing?

But if you still have could you please send it to me?

Product keys are linked to the account. You can't create a new account and use my beta key, and I'm not giving someone my account.

Sorry.

Damn.

Sigh, looks like I will have to wait for the demo then.

Unless the game becomes a massive hit along the lines of World of Warcraft, there won't be a "demo". MMOs don't do demos, but limited trials and the game has to reach a certain level of success before that happens.

Eh, I gave it 10 minutes. I liked the character creation thing, unfortunately the gameplay didn't really grab me - I was hoping to command a starship from the word 'go', not play a clumsy third-person action game - and the framerate was atrocious, which rather effectively put me off from pushing further. Oh well.

There's also an explanation for the somewhat "wierd" science surrounding the event.
Although Romulus is 500 ly away, the shockwave was able to reach the planet in very short time because it traveled through subspace.

They knicked my idea :p I came up with ages ago Hobus Star was the biggest star in the known galaxy and on a subspace breach that was ripped open when it when supernova so didn't create a black hole just a tear through space the energy went through that potentially could damage hundreds of worlds ;) I watch too much SCI FI...

Overall I quite enjoyed the beta, once you get up the levels, you need to be a bit more tactical with combat and it all meshes rather well. Fleet actions are a lot of fun with massive numbers of ships taking each other on.

However the ground combat is poorly designed and the levels are very very boring.

That was always Cryptic's problem. The ground combat in both City of Heroes and Champions Online was poorly designed and leveling was extremely boring. STO just seems like a Star Trek skin overlaying those two games.

There's a demo for Champions, so it will happen I would assume.

What's the verdict on the game? It seems to be split between people who are giving up on it and people who think it has potential.

Most people don't fork over $14.99 a month for "potential".

I'm not in to computer games too much, so maybe I love this game so much because I haven't experienced what other games have to offer, so my expectations aren't too high. But being a Star Trek fan and a casual gamer, I LOVE this game... amazing! The whole Star Trek galaxy is literally at my finger tips! :D

And people who can't play the damn thing because they have ATI cards. :shifty:

I have an ATI and have only crashed three times on Open Beta.

Loving the game so far. Bought a lifetime membership and ordered from Gamestop so I'll be getting a nice shiny TOS style Connie. :)

Crashes aren't my problem - I have a 5850 and I get graphical corruption galore.

Turning it down to low fixes the starting room, but as soon as I move into the second room, even turning everything down to Minimum doesn't fix the problem. Everything in the drivers is "Use Application Settings", and Catalyst AI doesn't affect it.

So at this point, they're not getting my money. Too bad. I'd have considered a lifetime membership, but those are going away soon, and I'm sure as hell not going to pay monthly for two games at once.

They'll still offer lifetime membership. It'll just be 300 bucks instead of 250.

It may be, good or bad, we want to play it because it is Star Trek.

Which is sad, really.

If it's bad, you should let them know it's bad by not playing it, so maybe someday something that is both Star Trek and good can be made.

It's not a bad game actually. But if people don't but the game, it won't mean something better will be made, it means NOTHING will be made as TPTB will think that the license just doesn't sell.

I disagree. I do think that it's a bad game. What's worse, it's not even really a Star Trek game. It's a different game with Star Trek pictures and names tacked on as window dressing to make people think of Star Trek while they play.
