Ah, I see. I suppose it would also make it easier to answer questions, knowing that everybody is using the same type of game/version.
It's at 33.4% now. Hopefully if I leave it on overnight it should be done by morning - in time for a couple of days free..
When you create your ship, will your crew be real people or bots? I've heard people recruiting for fleets in STO, see..

Your crew are bots, but you can join fleets of real players. TBBS has such a fleet.

rather idiotic and suicidal bots at times I might add.

I gotta say, I'm enjoying Season 2. I did a mission in Fluidic space last night, and look forward to more such missions.

Sounds great. If they keep expanding the game like this (for free.. takes time though) I wont mind waiting. 'Tis great for professionals who manage to complete all missions/episodes!

Hiya all, I wanted to ask if someone could help me with something. I'd like to sometimes contribute to the Memory Beta wiki. Now i know there is an STO wiki out there but it lacks the information that I am seeking so I was wondering if one of you kind posters might be able to help me.

There is a mission called Mission: Ancestral Sin that takes place on Vulcan I think involving a Romulan delegation. Anyway from what I gather, there is something about a death threat involved and Syrrannites along with some talks with some Vulcan historians. Could someone explain to me what goes on in the mission? I mean in terms of content? What do the Vulcan historians say and all that. Its because I would like to add it to the wiki if possible and can't seem to find anywhere on the net that tells me what the historians and outcome of the mission is.

Now I know some might say play the game, but sadly I cannot afford to :( so if anyone can help me or PM me, that would be appreciated. Thanks!

I like that fact that I can now put all my weapons on autofire, I lets me focus on chasing after a hostile and keeping the sheilds I have facing them from falling.

Well, I have the most rubbishest problem in STO history. And the most common.

ERROR DECOMPRESSING DATA!!!!

No, not Data as in Enterprises' Data, I mean... data. Crap. I have to re-install some of the .hogg files in the darned patch now. :/ Seriously - I have NEVER met such a problematic game!

Basically, there's a Romulan delegation on Vulcan. They recieve an anonymous death threat. Since that threat contains numerous errors regarding Vulcan history, you're tasked with talking to the various historians standing around in order to get the correct facts and prove that the death threat coudn't have come from a Vulcan.

I just did the quest, or at least, I tried. It seems to be bugged atm. I can't seem to tell the Romulans that Surak's Katra isn't gone as stated in the death threat, but stored safely within the Kir'shara.

Just to check, did you find the last guy hiding behind the plant up on the mountain, he's next to the walkway past the circle shaped area just on the left:

I've just run through it again and here's some of what is said, I've left out the actual problem solving of who is responsible:

Many many thanks you guys for the answer :bolian: I really appreciate it and the screenshots help a lot. Quite impressed with some of the information there... looks like the STO people really went into the novels to gather some terms and terminology whilst others are from the show.

So is it ever explained who sent the death threat?

Yes but I left it out since that's how you solve this diplomatic incident :D

I just got a new PC and tried out the demo/trial. It's a lot of fun and a bit different from WoW. I rolled a Vulcan, but I think I am going to scrap him and reroll a custom class. If I am still digging, I may purchase the full version and give it a go.

How do I join the TBBS fleet?

I'll have to look up my handle; I think it is @TheBrew

I upgraded to the full version last night; a L2 Tactical Alien I had put together got bugged after I did it and the game kicks me to the login screen each time I try to enter an different zone from the Map. I put in a GM ticket for it. I ended up rolling an engineer that instanced just fine. That means I've gone through the tutorial three times in the last two days.

I did an escort mission and got a bit lost before I figured out where I was supposed to be going.

Feel free to ask for help, if you want to get to know the STO univers. i think nearly anybody in the fleet is happy to sidekick for you. it's always more fun to fly together.

A reminder for folks joining the thread:

If you don't have an active STO account and thus can't post on the STO forums, and you have questions about the game, I subscribe to this thread and will try to answer anything I can.

I don't work for Cryptic, I just run their official IRC channel for them.

I'm honestly not trying to flame or start anything here but I'm wondering what other trek fans think of this game....

Cryptic isn't the best when it comes to MMO's..I beta'd STO..but never renewed my sub after free month.

I did return this past weekend to try it out to see the changes...and was REALLY glad to see they made it so you could set more then one fore/aft weapon to auto-fire...mashing the spacebar as you did things was tedious.

however

I get the game is set during a "war time" but....that's all you really do...warp in..pewpewpew...scan a couple things...warp out.

There's so little content and only one path to take that making alts is tedious because you're literally just doing the same things over and over again..most MMO's at least have multiple areas to do things in. But this seems to be a Cryptic thing, Champions is the same way..

It's beyond buggy and clunky....I thought about re-activating for a month just to play more because...the combat is fun..and I LOVE the customized bridge officers..and am one of the few that enjoys the ground combat for the most part. However one of the ground missions I did we were stuck in a shield..and had to use machines to transport to other bubbles...sure enough it bugged out on me...I was solo...but it left my away team at the other bubble and they didn't come with me..but they somehow got outside the bubble and eventually died fighting all the mobs outside the bubbles..while I died several times inside the various bubbles until I was able to shut them down because I was alone taking on groups of enemies meant for the entire team.....overall the mission was fun other then this but it left such a sour taste in my mouth I didn't resub.

So, like I said, I'm curious what it is about it that you guys like? am I just missing something? I LOVE trek..but I just can't justify spending the $$/month to play what is more akin to a f2p MMO....and I've been sub'n to MMO's since Ultima Online..

thanks in advance.

You missed the new diplomatic mission system, where not only do you not have to pew pew, but pew pew isn't even an option. It awards not only regular XP, but also "Diplomacy points" with their own rank/title structure on the Ambassador track. It's early in the implementation of that system, so you can't level your character up doing just Diplomacy, but it's there, and it will be getting a lot of expansion attention.
