Star Trek Online Novelization?

Apologies if this has been brought up before...I've been offline most of the week. I was curious if there are any future plans to adapt the story of Star Trek online in novel format? I've been following the progress of the online game and think it's story is fascinating and think it would translate well to a novel.

This game reminds me of the tooth fairy. You want it to be real, but deep down in your soul, you know it's just not.

This is purely my personal opinion, but I think STO would do something similar to World of Warcraft in the long run; establish the lore setting of the game and then perhaps in the future, if there is the demand, release a few books (or comics) fleshing out certain aspects of the lore that have been hinted about in-game.

WoW does this very well at the moment, and I can see STO doing this in a few years if the game lasts that long. Don't forget however, that most MMORPGs don't last more than a year or two.

I definitely can't see any novelisations being released before STO goes live, unless it's a novella as part of the collector's edition or something similar.

From what I understand, the timeline that STO has developed, while having been influenced slightly from the novel timelines, into its own separate timeline, very separate from the novels.

As I understand it, the Borg appear in STO, while Destiny has pretty much done away with them. Likewise, I've heard that the Klingons are at odds with the Federation in STO, while Klingon/Federation relations are very strong at the moment.

That's true. On the other hand, the novels are not constrained to a single timeline. There's the mainstream novel timeline, there's the Shatnerverse, there's Crucible, there's Mirror Universe and Myriad Universes. No reason more timelines couldn't be visited in print.

But all of those things are logical for a video game universe, part of the fun is going to be mixing it up with those races.

Oh yes and if any of you are planning to play the game as Klingons,

If you wander into my sector of Space,Captain Zhang and the USS lollipop will be waiting to sent you onto the black fleet! ;)

Also, there's this difference

Unfortunately, in STO, Gul Macet is going to be portrayed as more of a Dukat stand-in...rather conniving and with dubious motivations, quite a bit more militaristic than the reformer we see in the relaunch. Accordingly, there is potential for the Cardassians to be trouble in STO, and I believe relations are much rockier between them and the Federation than in the relaunch.

Dear God that actually sounds terrible. Count me out of this, sounds too much like Amanda 2 for my liking.

But what does it matter? If you are a carddie and want me to team up with me to take down some Klingons, that's what we can do (if I've understood the game play correctly) - and then I can blow you out of the sky... :techman:

It's not like the backstory to those things is ever that important.

"This is my cousin, Macet, and my other cousin, Macet..."

That's true, but how do you know that I wouldn't turn on you first? After all Cardassians are a deceitful bunch:p. And whilst its true that the backstory is not all that important (or thought out, which is were the novel might have problems) I still find it annoying that the Cardies are always placed as 'teh evil'. Still at least they aren't the comic relief!

hum.. we have seen Klingon ships, Orion ships and federation ships, I wonder what the Cardassians will be like?

There should never be a novelisation of Star Trek: online, in fact there should be all out war between the STO and treklit camps. It could be like the good old days when both DS9 and voyager were on the air at the same time.
