Star Trek : Online is happening OFFICIAL

There is a countdown timer on Cryptic Studios website.
This countdown includes promotional art from Star Trek online.
In less than a day there will be an official annoucement that the studio is developing the game and that it will indeed see the light of day.

Here is more evidence :
Crytpic studios are openly hiring for staff positions on Star trek online :

Note this is an official mention of Star Trek online. This can't be disputed.

From Hailing frequency website :
At 1.30pm on Sunday August 10th, there is a mysterious entry on the Creation Entertainment website that simply says "Star Trek Online Revealed".

http://www.creationent.com/cal/stlv.htm

12:30 PM AUTOGRAPHS WITH SCOTT (those with Klingon lunch tickets or Leonard Nimoy photo ops may go first). Scott’s autograph ticket is available in the vendors room for $149.

1:30 PM “Star Trek Online Revealed”

2:30 PM LEONARD NIMOY on stage (Mr. Spock, superstar director, actor, producer,
photographer!)

So there you have it folks, Star Trek : Online is happening.
The countdown timer will soon end and we will know.
But even without that, I believe no more confirmation is needed.
Hopefully the game will come out this time.

it'll be interesting to see what Cryptic does with it.

a small part of me wants to apply for a job, the part that didnt get a call back when i applied to work on the game before...

instead i'll just look forward to the game as a gamer...

I am not a fan of MMOs but I think Star Trek could offer a good experience in the genre, for people like myself. So I look forward to the advancement of this game

I will be at the Creation Con so I should be able to attend at least part of that panel. Maybe I can get some hardware specs out of them???

Cool. It looks really pretty. Hopefully it'll play well...even though I most likely won't be signing up. I'm still holding out for the Firefly MMO.

Cryptic have done some good stuff, particularly the launch of City of Heroes. I've more confidence in them than in Perpetual.

Pretty excited about this! I'm glad that countdown didn't turn into a "FOOOOLED YOOOU" thing :p

So, it looks like they're still doing the 25th century angle, but is the idea of joining the Klingon Empire new, or was that there in the original game plan?

Okay... this is very surprising news.
I want my own ship. Kickass class. With one hundred Seven of Nine holograms as my crew. Is that asking too much?

From my guess, I think that each person's "avatar" will be their own ship. You probably start off as a shuttle-craft (or something) and level up to your desired class.

I think you'll be holding out for awhile then. As much as I love Firefly, MMOs take a LOT of money to produce, and since the movie didn't do that well, I find it hard to imagine they'd be able to raise the necessary funds for a company to do it and a decent job of it. I'd love to be proven wrong of course.

I'm a longtime MMO player (been playing Everquest for 8 years and dabbled in some others), and a longtime Star Trek fan, so I am quite excited by this news, and will be watching the games development with great interest. I hope I'll be able to play a Vulcan from the beginning (only humans and Klingons are mentioned on the website so far).

Wow, I'm surprised. I won't play it, because never in my wildest dreams would I have enough time to justify paying a monthly fee for an MMO, but I hope it succeeds, as a well-done MMO is a good thing for the Trek franchise overall.

Actually, this sounds a lot like a Trek version of EVE, but you get to leave your ship, so your "avatar" is the captain. I wonder if you can take an away team over to a space station and pick a fight with a Klingon crew in a bar:

"Laddie, don't you think should...re-type that?"

"UR right, I shouldz. UR ship is teh garbagez!"

If it's true that each player will be the captain of a ship, I wonder if you'll be able to hire NPC crew. Teaming with a bunch of other captains for ground missions would be a little odd.

...but a whole ship of active players would be odd as well. Everybody would want to be flying the thing, firing the phasers, etc. Getting everyone to fall into the usual Starfleet command structure could be like herding cats.

Balancing this thing is gonna be interesting.
