Server is up!

I am stuck at 95% of the patch. And a snail moves faster for this last five. At this rate I doubt I will get in today.

EDITED: Well I got in and created my Romulan. Then I made the mistake of changing characters. I wanted to unlock Remans. But now can't get to the login screen.

Gah! So close! I got in, starting making a Romulan character, and then got disconnected from the Login server!

Yeah, not surprised by the server issues, they are groaning from the stress. I finally got booted after playing for a fer hours... hoping I can get back in.

edit: Oh yeah, login failure issues... it's gonna be a while.

yep, another bangup job from Cryptic. If it was the first time or two, I'd fully understand, but this happens EVERY time, and they can't seem to anticipate it. Managed to patch, but can't retrieve my characters once I start log-in, so guess i'm not playing today...

A queue you'd expect if it was a heavy load. Cryptic seems to prefer the buggy, frustrating crash instead, as that's been their go-to. If they can't up the capacity, why not use the queue system to MANAGE that load and only allow the number they can handle? Instead, rush and crash. Yay...

Some alerts about issues from the forums:

Jolan tru Captain!

Welcome to Legacy of Romulus!

*!*!*We are investigating an issue where some players are seeing a "login failed for unknown reason" error at the log-in screen.*!*!*

We are investigating a bug where some Gold Members may not have received their additional character slot -- details here (Will be fixed ASAP!).

UPDATE! We are also investigating reports of slow patching and are working on a resolution. For a better patch experience, please restart your launcher. It will pick up where it left off and should be faster to complete.

If you have purchased a Legacy or Starter Pack, please see this thread for instructions on how to claim your items in-game.

If you have additional questions about the Legacy or Starter pack, please read this FAQ.

Thanks, and we'll see you in-game!

I cant fathom why, oh why, they didn't take all that $$$$$$ from the legacy packs and lifetime membership sales and UPGRADE the servers to be able to handle the load... where oh where just does all that money go, DEV night at the strip club?!?!?

They did upgrade servers, but then they put Neverwinter on the same servers. Or so it appears.

Because the server issues are caused by everyone trying to log in at once. Due to the new release. That is atypical. In a few weeks the log in load will be more spread out and there will not be server issues. However if they were to "upgrade servers" as you suggest they would waste a lot of money and in a few weeks would have an unsustainable over capacity. This is why games have log in queues during special events.

It was failing during test weekend as well, maybe should have been a sign?

And it's not just load, it's buggy as well. Why the eff should just demand crash it? Isn't that what the queue should handle?

No, it's just that this particular problem is basically inherent in online games. The only solution is to order a lot of extra server capacity. And look what happened to games like Warhammer Online that went that route. Log on queues are one of the best solutions to the problem.
EDIT The crashing probably means they are being to generous in how many people they allow in at one time. or there could be a bottleneck. It's hard to say. Cryptic's server setup is different from most in how all of their games share chat and I think their log on server is shared by them as well

Got back in for about 20 minutes before they took the shard down for maintenance. I'll take that as a good sign.
