Thanks for your question Tuskin. I think like most if not all fleets in our position the colony desperately needs dilithium and duty officers. Unfortunately few are willing to part with dilithium as it has real cash value and is needed for everything from gear upgrades and re-rolls to reputation gear... I donate a portion of all my alts dilithum but as you can see we cant even get enough to push out the combat boosts from the from the research lab... Short of kidnapping some rich admirals daughter to ransom her for the pink rocks and doffs I'm open to further suggestions to elicit contributions. What can you do? if you and everyone donated one doff a day and a few thousand dilithium we could move our largly stagnant projects.

Alright, I have topped up enough dilithium to complete the K-13 station. So in 9 days, we will have it maxed out at tier 3.

I hope this isn’t an inappropriate reply. I just downloaded STO and plan to play it soon once I have a break in work. Is it still fun for new players even though it’s an old MMO? I love Star Trek lore and I tend to stick with MMOs with lore I like. I’m mostly interested in the mission stories.

Should I start with Starfleet? I’m interested in KDF but I’m worried that the faction is dead since this is an old game.

Starfleet has the best mission stories. There a few choices. I would pick a Temporal operative as it starts with the 23rd century.
The land based stuff isn’t great but the space battles are fun.

So I’ve noticed. The big complaint is that ground battles suck but space battles are awesome. I’ve sampled like 15 MMOs though so I could probably endure anything if the lore is good.

Well I’m interested that they want to add to the canon so it should be cool.

I would give STO a big resounding yes if you are a fan of Star Trek.

Yeah that comes from players misunderstanding ground combat, thinking it is a third person shooter game. Ground combat is very unsatisfactory if all you are doing is aiming and shooting with your weapon and not using your kit module abilities.

Instead, enable weapon automatic firing mode and let your character fire shots by themselves and focus on using your kit module abilities. In other words play ground combat like you are playing World of Warcraft, constantly "activating powers" and "casting spells". You should be tossing grenades, deploying turrets and drones, buffing or healing your allies, debuffing and rooting your opponents.

I find playing this way gives me a much improved ground combat experience especially once you reach the high levels and gain access to a much wider variety of kit modules.

Automatic firing mode! Hells yeah! The only way to fight on the ground. Go to options in game, controls, last option auto attack and select: Toggle , non combat cancels. Right click both firing options, manually fire the first shot and as long as you are in red alert you will fire on an enemy. This is awesome with the Plasma Piercing Beam Rrifle. Equip your whole team with them and everything melts in your path!!!!!

I don’t even know what those kit modules do. :)

Kit modules are good. With the right kit modules, it is possible to cut what was a 20 second fight down to just under 5 seconds or less. For the recent Pahvo event, that's the difference between being overwhelmed by wave after wave of Terrans vs having time to breath between the waves.

Have a look at this page. It is intended for players who want to do well in the Colony Defense Simulation event, but it also provides the list of good kit modules for each profession, and what each kit module does.

Personally for a Science Officer, I like to use these basic kit modules, with Electro-Gravitic Field followed by Exothermic Induction Field as a good one-two punch that often kills .
  • Triage (Heals yourself and nearby team members)
  • Electro-Gravitic Field (Slows opponents, and has a chance to hold them in place)
  • Exothermic Induction Field OR Endothermic Induction Field (Generates a circle of fire or frost around an opponent, damaging every opponent in the circle)
Tactical and Engineering Officers don't really have many basic kit modules that are as effective as what the Science Officers have. So Tac and Eng officers have to rely on the advanced kit modules purchsed from the fleet store. specialization stores, reputation stores or purchased from the exchange.

I like the fact there will be a T6 Risian ship for the summer event. Not sure if I'll return before that event - as I'm taking a break for a few months.

What chance is there to get a T6 Discoprise?
Right now? None as it isn’t out yet.

If all goes to plan it will be out in May. They’re waiting until the season is over before they make it, they want to see if the DSC Connie does anything special first.

It will be purchased or you have to open an "infinite" number of boxes?
