Star Trek Online DevBlog #5 : First in-game screenshot

Hmmm ... what an ugly starship. Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad to see some output from this project instead of artist's renderings, but that has to be the most ungainly hunk of tritanium I've seen since a Borg cube.

it's a pre-beta screenshot for an MMORPG, hardly fair to compare it to a gold and released next gen console game and port? Still, needs some polish for sure.

As for playing like legacy, I must've missed the part of that game where you could beam down to planets with a character and explore the insides of space stations and alien ships?

Exactly, it would be completely unfair to compare the graphics to Legacy so early in development.

I'm surprised that they put out such an ugly screenshot as their first "official in-game screenshot." You'd think they'd have something that looked a little better.

I would have hoped for a more realistic graphic style. This looks, from this one early shot anyway, to be a cartoon style decision for graphics. Hence the ridiculous starfield, the cartoonish alien, and the ship (which doesn't look bad to me, though it looks a step back from the Legacy models which looked great on my PC) I can live with that if the gameplay is there.
I'm not worried about the control scheme, as STO is being developed for PC, while Legacy wanted to be a console game. Target sub-systems, anyone?
I ended up having fun with Legacy despite itself, but only because of the saving grace of the mod community. How sad and pathetic to have just let the fans fix it. On my PC, the NX Enterprise wouldn't switch to the NCC-1701 when the timeline changed. Unforgivably stupid, gamekilling bug. The mods saved it.
I hope STO is easily modified and added to, maybe even with a kit included like Neverwinter Nights.
