Star Trek Online and Trek Lit

If I'm not mistaken Memory Beta was specifically created to include all of the licensed Star Trek stuff equally, and not only Books and Comics, so I guess you'll have to live with the odd mention of a video game character, ship etc.

It's not an "odd mention." If you look at the Enterprise-E personnel page for example, other than the hazard team section, there is nothing to say whether characters without pages are from the books, comics or games.

So... the non-canon wiki lists all the non-canon stuff? Go figure.

"Memory Beta is a wikipedia-style database for licensed Star Trek works, including novels, comic books, RPG sourcebooks, video games and any other licensed works."

Sneaky bastards, they even admit that's what they're doing.

Steve, no need to be sarcastic or facetious. I'm just saying that a separation of "novels, comics" from the "RPG sourcebooks, games" etc would be more beneficial. Those who want stuff for the games can go right to it, and so can those who're looking for stuff from the novels and comics. The only problem I have is that when I'm looking for continuity characters, I can't see whether they're game or novel/comic. In fact, the worst part is events section for the individual years. I can't keep up with everything so it would be nice if certain events were asterisked or something to denote that they are from a game or whatever.

I can live it as is because I doubt it's going to change, but my personal preference would be to keep the novels and comics in memory beta (and the RPG sourcebook and other materials that have been used), and put the games in a new one like memory gamma, specifically for games which can be quite extensive. I'm not adept at writing wiki-stuff so i'm going to leave quietly now.

^^Well, where do you draw the line? Some people might prefer to keep the comics characters separate from the novel characters.

Besides, every entry and reference is supposed to cite a source. As long as all the sources are referenced, it's perfectly clear where a character or event comes from, and there's no need for separate sections. If those references are missing or unclear in some cases, the solution is to do a more thorough job following the current policy, not to throw it out and enact a whole new policy.

Personally, I don't really see where that's necessary. I go on there all the time, and I've never really had trouble telling if the info comes from a game or a book, comic, RPG source. Most of the time if you can't tell you all you have to do to find out is click on the source, and even if it has no link you can still find the name somewhere.

And it would be easier for them to have a clearly defined section for the gaming characters, wouldn't it?

Why?

Then others would say that comics characters should be in a separate section. Then someone else will want Comics divided into Gold Key, Marvel, DC, Malibu, Marvel/Paramount, Wildstorm, Tokyopop and IDW. Then someone will want Shatnerverse and Crucible novel characters listed separately.

What do you do with Chell the Bolian, who's been in VOY episodes, VOY novels and VOY computer games?

memory gamma's the fan-fic wiki

Yeah but comics, games and books are licensed, so it isn't fan fiction really. It's a grey area that can't really be defined. Just let the obsessive know which books fall together properly.

i was pointing out that the name's taken. so if someone was (hypothetically) to split MB into a comics/books wiki and then a seperate RPG/games wiki, it'd have to be Memory Delta or something...

Sorry my bad.

I was actually just on MB the other day, and I never noticed before, but it does actually say right next to the cittation if it is a video game, comic book, episode, ect.

If you have access to MB, why wouldn't you simply go back and look for yourself, rather than asking here?

I wasn't meaning to ask anything there. And when I do ask questions here it's because I probably couldn't find it on MB.
