Star Trek Online, Abramsverse TNG?

The comics while I know take place before romulus is destroyed, I wonder if this game takes places in the slightly altered 24th century of the abramsverse.

EDIT: I guess we will know real quick if Vulcan is in the game hehe.

In the storyline for the game, they incorporated what happened in the Countdown comic, but that's from the normal Trek universe. So I think it will be in the normal universe.

I can't imagine the game being any good(I played Star Wars Galaxies). While great in concept, MMOs are hard to master. Warcraft somehow got it right.

Yeah, I doubt I'm going to play it. I don't have the time or patience to play games that are that involved.

They're also incorporating stuff from the novels.

One of the developers confirmed that they are staying within the prime timeline, so Vulcan will be intact with Romulus being destroyed.

As I understand it, the game will be set in the prime universe.

I'm curious about the game, but the more I hear, the more suspicious I am as well. For one thing, all characters will have their own ships, effectively making everybody a captain (regardless of actual rank.) Generically speaking I have no problem with that, but it creates an experience that is totally different from what we have seen in every Trek show or film, with a group from the same crew working together. Seems like they took the easy way out there.

and it sounds like everything boils down to fighting and alliances. it sounds dreadfully dull, like that old hackneyed dig at the Army: "travel the world, learn about new cultures, meet interesting people, and kill them"

Anyone who has played at least a few hours of any online teamplay based game (Such as Red Orchestra, HL2:Empires, or HL2:Insurgency) knows that trying to organize players into a cohesive unit is like herding cats. What exacerbates this effect is throwing players into the same vehicle, such as tanks in Red Orchestra. While you do have solid teamplayers like me who want a full crew, a good mjaority of people are either incapable of doing such or insist on going solo in a tank, which is silly and ineffective.

So, yeah, I can understand why they would want one player per ship.
