Star Trek/nuBSG crossover anyone?

I am not the best of writers. What about a crossover Star Trek/nuBSG story.

Having ST: Voyager intercepting the Colonial Fleet. It could be through a rift or since the BSG crew has been jumping for 4 years they have arrived in the Delta Quadrant.
Main Plot: The colonial Fleet has jumped to a new area of space. They meet USS Voyager. They (Colonial Fleet) notice one of their ships is missing. Voyager and Colonial Fleet are in an area of Borg Space. The mystery or problem would be have the Borg acquired Cylon technology? This would create headaches for Voyager and The Colonial Fleet.
Both fleets would have to cooperate to uh.. solve this.

This would create opportunities for interactions and conflicts with different characters. For example what would Dr. Baltar's alter ego, Number 6, have to advise about the Borg or think about Seven of Nine? These are just a few ideas

I was thinking of this because some years ago there was an XMen/Star Trek Next Generation crossover novel. I'm sure some crossover fanfic like this exists somewhere in the net verse.

Ideas or even a start to the novel would be appreciated by myself. :)

There tends not to be a whole lot of crossovers here for several reasons, but I do know of one very good Trek/nBSG crossover on fanfiction.net called "Going Native". You might want to check that story out.

I read about 3 chapters of the Xmen/ST book-I managed to reach the toilet in time to place the book where it belonged. I'm a purist and TOTALLY against cross-overs. If you can make it PLAUSIBLE I'm all for it-but I haven't seen plausible since Robert Heinlein's "Number Of the Beast". Good luck.

One difficulty I see is the sheer number of characters involved in such a cross-over. For example, how much face time would one give to the main characters of the Galactica v. the Voyager? I fear that some interesting characters would be banished to obscurity. Not impossible an impossible task, certainly, but a difficult balance to maintain.

That being said, it could be an interesting story-line. I read a pretty good Star Wars/Star Trek crossover somewhere on the 'net that didn't engage the gag reflex. Unfortunately, there are some crossovers that are pretty bad out there, too. I see a greater potential for parody and comedy than drama in such stories.

Why not give it a shot? That's what the fan-fic forum is for! ;) Your story idea is different from any I've read and might work well. I can't speak for others, but I'd be glad to give feed-back and constructive criticism. Who knows, you might be the one to pull it off well! :)

Thank you, for the suggestions. A tight focused storyline. With the beginning have BSG and the Colonial Fleet in the Delta Quadrant ending with their return to wherever they were beforehand.

Some things to occur between those two points.
-An encounter with the Borg and possible assismilation of some Galactica crew and some Cylons. The Borg having Cylon technology would be scary and something the Star Trek/Galactica Crews would want to reverse for their mutual good.
-A subplot involving a Galactica crew member wanting to steal a replicator. Maybe Tom Zarek.
-A member of Voyager crew wanting to go to Galactica's crew. Someone from the Equinox 5, would be an example. They may want to leave for a career opportunity or other personal reasons. Also vice versa someone from Galactica wanting to go to Voyager. :)

This is a fascinating premise. The Colonials are, in many ways, polar opposites of what the Federation and Voyager represent. Janeway’s made it clear that the Federation’s codes of conduct will reign supreme, even over the survival of her crew, while President Rosalyn and Admiral Adama seem hyper-fixated on the survival of their species (as they should be, given their circumstances). Seeing how these disparate groups react and interact to/with one another should prove very interesting and (one hopes) entertaining.

Then there’s the mystery of how the Borg and Cylons will perceive one another. You’ve got the Borg, biological humanoids who’ve embraced artificial enhancements of their bodies and slaving their minds to a hive structure. The Cylons started as machines and are slowly evolving towards the biological. They seem to be two species moving towards a common middle-ground from opposite ends of the spectrum.

Can the Borg even assimilate another machine intelligence? Would an assimilated Cylon have the capability of undermining or rewriting Borg behavioral protocols with their own programming?

So many questions. :D

Thank you, for your suggestion! I checked out the story on fanfiction.net. This will be a tough act to follow; "Going Native".

I'm going to try fanfiction.net then register and go from there. I'll keep you posted on the title. I want to finish eading "Going Native". It has 43 chapters thus far. It's in BSG 2003 section.

Thank you for your suggestions. I'm going to try fanfiction.net. This will be my first effort. I'd like to try the POV narrative(a technique of one of my favorite authors, George R.R. Martin). I would probably start with Capt. Janeway, Adm. Adama, Mme President Roslyn. More difficult would be 7 of 9 and Dr. Baltar. Other POVs maybe LT. Tom Paris, Cmdr. Chakotay, Lee"Apollo" Adama Starbuck, and Ens. Harry Kim.

A BSG/TREK crossover..

Well. I love a challenge. I will try to do one, but I think the best idea would be to do a crossover on a small scale. Since you are the one offering the 'challenge' I make you a counter offer. Tell me what two characters, one from TREK one from BSG, you would like to see meet?

I don't see it.

BSGTOS and Voyager, maybe. nuBSG is such a different animal from any Trek that the two concepts simply wouldn't mesh well, and I'm talking about more than just the characters.

nuBSG is as close to hard space sci-fi that TV has gotten in a long time, whereas most of trek is such soft sci-fi that you could make a sleep number bed out of it, especially Voyager (fluidic space anyone?). That's because the rules applied to each universe are vastly different. That being the case, how do you even merge the universes so that the characters can meet, much less interact? You can't without dumbing down the nuBSG verse or smartening up the Voyager one, and either way you're changing the source material, which makes a true crossover impossible.

My take is that you should cheat. Steal the nuBSG concept without using the actual material. Have Voyager encounter a ragtag fugitive fleet being chased by a new robotic enemy, and fit the fleet to the rules of the trek universe. The best example of this kind of crossover is a story Gibraltar posted a while back where his Gibraltar crew encountered a time lord, which he managed to depict without ever using the words "time lord" in the story. It just makes more sense to me.

With the exception of "Going Native", none of the nBSG/Trek crossovers I've seen have worked. For one, the tech disparity is just too great to have any meaningful direct conflict--the Enterprise-D alone could mop the floor of the combined Cylon and Colonial fleets without working up a sweat; so you have to focus on characters; and, to be honest, most of the writers I've read want to focus on just explosions. "Going Native" does focus on characters and is very limited in its focus at that with the story revolving around Gaeta. The author also took an interesting slant by introducing something she called "Palamas Indicators", making Gaeta a descendant of Carolyn Palamas and Apollo.

Now, I like the idea of just taking the concept from nBSG and pulling it into the Trekverse--that's a long established literary technique. Gibraltar did a great job pulling off something like that in his story which was a non-crossover crossover with Dr. Who; and I've got a similar non-crossover crossover in mind if I ever get around to writing it. That approach allows you to have your cake and eat it too: It remains pure Trek while at the same time allowing you to play around somewhat with the concepts that you want to crossover. It would also allow you to explore new writing techniques than just doing a straight crossover--I'd give it a whirl.

Re: A BSG/TREK crossover..

Choices in order of preference
1.Starbuck and Tom Paris
2. Seven of Nine and Dr. Baltar
3.Captain Janeway and Pres. Roslyn

On fanfiction.net there is a credible TNG/nuBSG crossover called, "Going Native". I've always thought TNG was the most...how do I put it...the most yuppified crew in the ST verse. If a credible effort can be made with that, a small scale effort can probably be made with ST Voyager.

Some of the Voyager episodes are of a darker sort. Try "the Thaw" in Season 2. In season 7 there is "flesh and Blood". Janeway faces the consequences of providing hologram characters for the Hirogens' hunting games.

In fact this small scale story would be set after the events of that. :)

On fanfiction.net, there is an interesting crossover called "Humanity Lost" or "Lost Humanity" in Star Trek Other.
