Have any trek authors been interested in or tried to write a trek novel like Brandon Sanderson did with his Warbreaker novel? Where he released sections of his book as he wrote it including rough drafts and everything?

Trek authors are working under contract for Pocket Books under license from CBS. We have to follow their lead and get CBS's approval for everything we write before it can see print. So we don't have the luxury to vary the approach the way a writer creating his own original material could. It's not our property, so it's not our decision. And it wouldn't be practical anyway, since we have to keep our published Trek fiction consistent with the onscreen canon and generally with other novels by other authors. So it has to go through that approval process to ensure continuity before it can be shown to the public.
