Star Trek Miniatures/Heroclix?

I'd like start out by saying that my son and I love to play Star Wars Miniatures and I have about 200 of them at last count. I was wondering if there has been any discussions of a Miniatures/Heroclix type format for Star Trek.

There was talk earlier in the year about a Wizkids-produced Trek game, but the rumors have since been quashed. I fear something like what happened with Toon Clix (taking orders before the negotiations were final) may have led to Trek Clix, or something similar, going the same way. Additionally, no mention was made of such a project at the recent iHobby Expo.

Finally, Wizkids made an announcement that they intended to stick to their core lines (Heroclix, Pirates, Star Wars) for the immediate future.

Still, hope springs eternal.

Any news on a Trek minis game? People always seem to be playing the Star Wars one at the game store I sometimes go to. A similiar Trek game would seem like a logical choice (pun intended)...

Well, I can tell you it won't be coming from Wizkids. They closed their doors last Monday.

You could always try Federation Commander...

Are we talking about character miniatures or starship miniatures? Either way, the only real choice would be ADB (Amarillo Design Bureau). Right now (to the best of my knowledge), they're the only ones with any kind of role-playing or wargaming license for Star Trek. Even then, their license is EXTREMELY limited. Prime Directive RPG (for character miniatures), and Star Fleet Battles / Federation Commander (for starship miniatures) are only allowed to use stuff from The Original Series and The Animated Series. Anything else (Star Trek Enterprise era, TMP era, TNG era - including DS9 and Voyager) are ABSOLUTELY off limits...

in many ways, i find the SFB universe to be more compelling and well-developed than the canonical star trek universe.

It's hard to argue with scenes as cool as this!

(Man, if only the Enterprise in the upcoming movie looked as good as Adam's CX...)

Depends on what you mean by 'limited'.

There may be no Breen or Cardassians, but with SFU-native powers like the Inter-Stellar Concordium, the Lyran Star Empire and the Hydran Kingdom, the empires of the Omega Octant and Lesser Magellanic Cloud, the Andromedan Invaders and the Seltorians, and more besides (including their own take on the dawn of Star Fleet), the Star Fleet Universe is hardly as limited in scope as you make it out to be.

"Limited" simply means the parts of canon Star Trek they would be allowed to use. My guess would be roughly 10 to 15 percent of SFB's background comes directly from Star Trek. The rest they made up themselves...

I would not at all mind such a game being based on the SFB Universe, but I know quite a few people who would...

Well, for those who think Fed Commander is a bit much (it's really not hard to get a hang of, though - as the intro pdf can attest) there are a few discussions on what-may-be here.

I think the Silent Death and Starmada conversions seem to have somewhat more go in them than any clix game idea, though.

If that's a deal-breaker, it's their loss, I guess.

You'd be amazed what would be a deal-breaker with the people I game with. I couldn't get them to play Full Thrust because the game is played on a table top with...
