Star Trek meets Law and Order.

Mr. Scott

Commander
Howdy!

I think an interesting series would be a detective like Star Trek series. The set up would be sort of like L&O.

1.) Someone important gets killed.

2.) The Federation police are called in to investigate. The two or three officers could be from anywhere in the Alpha Quadrant or can be any race. Human, Vulcan and Bolian officers.

3.) Have episodes where a Federation citizen is killed in another Celestial Nation (Klingon Empire, Tellar etc.) and the problems of extradition, etc.

4.) The codification of legal evidence and procedure. The different races have to agree on what legal formulas to use, for example in Klingon law, someone is guilty until proven innocent, while the opposite is true in Federation Law.

5.) The lawyers can be mostly Bollians, Fernegi or Humans.

6.) Spy episodes between Section 31, Tal Shiar, Obsidian Order, Klingon secret service etc. Have a human distict attorney try to subpeana Section 31's records just to be buried in legal documents.

7.) Can an individual Borg be liable for what the Collective did?

I think it would be an interesting series.

I cannot stand watching Law & Order, why would I watch Star Trek turned into that? It was bad enough that Deep Space Nine turned Star Trek into a soap opera. Let us have Star Trek do what it does best... explore strange new worlds and have adventures.

Yes, in Star Trek: Law And Order, they can have stories where Federation citizen offenders are arrested and prosecuted for heinous crimes such as possesing money or practicing religion.

Every time the heroes go from the bridge, to the turbolift, to the corridor, to sickbay you would hear ...

BOM BOM

... and the stardate would briefly appear down in the corner of the screen.

While I don't care for SVU, I loved LaO for years and believe a "non-cop show" Star Trek would prosper from some aspects of the show like the staging, and fast and slow pacing switches, the willingness to switch star actors periodically.

I think one of the things that lead Star Trek to disappear from episodic television was the structure of the story telling itself.

I found the long lost pilot for Star Trek: Law and Order... here are a few clips:
