Star Trek Maps inquiry

You know, I might be able to reduce the file size by converting many of those pages from pictures to text, but the thing is password protected! Acrobat won't let me copy, extract, or even print anything.

You guys rock. I've been hearing about this for years, but see nothing. Utterly.

I really like the 3-D nature of the map. Why couldn't canon do this? Those guys are professionals being paid gobs of money to do work they love. WTF? Really.

^Star Trek Star Charts was from Geoffrey Mandel, one of the creators of Star Trek Maps. Both were published by companies holding official licenses from Paramount to publish Star Trek tie-in material (Bantam for STM, Pocket for STSC). So there's no difference in terms of how close to "canon" they are. They're both equally authorized yet equally non-canonical. They simply reflect two different eras of Trek canon; STSC came along after the onscreen material had established far more details about the Trek universe than TOS had, so a different interpretation was needed.

What do you mean? Why couldn't they publish a map book? Because they were making movies and TV shows, not publishing books.

No, why couldn't they do a 3D version of Starcharts - which I liked enough to buy a copy, so I'm not knocking it? Or keep in mind Outer Space is 3D on the damned shows?

In other words, an updated version of the old Star Trek Maps instead of the book with all the fold out charts that they did put out?

I could go for that...
