Star Trek Magazine Voyager Special

Hi folks,

Just to let you know that the new issue of Star Trek Magazine may be of interest to everyone on this part of the board, as it's a no holds barred special on Star Trek: Voyager.
Headline items include a very revealing interview with Jeri Ryan - find out what she thought of the Chakotay-Seven romance, and how Seven might cope as a mother; Bob Picardo reminiscing about the different relationships with Kes and Seven; and most revealing of all, producer Bryan Fuller discussing the behind the scenes problems on the show.
We've also given the show our "season by season" approach - a short article about an aspect of each season - with contributions by many Star Trek novelists, and there's an extract from, and discussion of, the new Star Trek: Voyager novel Full Circle, which touches on some of the controversial elements of the literary Voyager saga.
Add in Mike Friedman discussing the genesis of the season 2 story Reunion, a very special look back at Captain Proton including new illustrations by The Trek Life's David Reddick, and a tribute to Majel Roddenberry, and it's a packed issue.
It's on newsstands soon in the US, and should be available by the end of February in the UK.

Also advertised in there is the release of a CD ROM archive of back issues of the UK Star Trek Monthly, which started around the same time as Voyager - there are some fascinating interviews in there conducted during the first three seasons of the show.

That sounds awesome! Thanks for letting everyone on here know about it. I haven't seen this magazine in YEARS, but if I see it at Hastings, I'm grabbing it! :)

It's available at Barnes & Noble and Borders US; Chapters in Canada and Smiths and other good newsagents in the UK

I'm not a Voyager fan, but I like older-school sci-fi serials like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers, so I might pick up a copy of the magazine for its article about Captain Proton. :)

It's one of the most fun homages to those serials that I've seen - Dayton Ward and Dave Reddick went WAY beyond the call of duty on this one. There's an episode guide to the three Proton serials, ads from back in the day advertising Proton merchandise...

Is this the titan magazine? Also I have a comment/Question. Why don't you guys make a section like in the "STAR TREK THE Magazine" with Illustrations. What about a tech manual, Every Month do a chapter with artwork..etc :D

Along with a few other areas that have been suggested recently, these are on the agenda going forward after the movie this summer - there are some logistical problems now that weren't there when Star Trek The Magazine was running, so it's not something that I want to do half-heartedly.

I was thinking this as I was reading the last issue of the magazine. I wish you guys would get rid of the book preview section and put a tech section of some sort in. The book preview section is pretty much filler. I read the books and I avoid that section every issue because I don't want it to spoil the book I'm currently reading. I think the book reviews are good but the section with book excerpts sucks.

I really enjoy the book reviews and the previews, and I hope they both stay. The previews, specifically, are what got me back into buying Star Trek books regularly after not picking one up in 10 years.

I think their filler and the space could be used for something more creative. The original Star Trek Magazine was awesome and expensive, which is one of the reasons it tanked. They should borrow some ideas from that. The stuff on the new movie is somewhat pointless as well, since by the time it goes to print and is delivered it's already all over the internet and yesterdays news.

The book previews receive overwhelmingly more positive than negative comment - I'd love if we were in a position to put everything in.

And regarding the new movie stuff: the access that we have to the movie means that we are talking to the actors and the crew about material that they're not discussing elsewhere so yes, the news section does replicate (with much better photographic reproduction) stuff that's elsewhere, but the interviews don't!

Does that exclamation point at the end indicate your yelling at me? Ha ha just joking.:)
Surely there must be more that can be added to the magazine to beef it up and add more bang for the buck.
What about a section called "Retro Review" in which you take a look back at some older trek toys and merchandise from all 6 of the series and all the movies. That would be a nice addition, something different ya know. (I'd write it if you needed another writer, lol) I also prefer the binding that was used in the DS9 anniversary issue than the stapled binding that is used. I know page count often plays into that, but hopefully with newer sections and larger page counts this can become the common method of binding. Im a subscriber of your magazine and also a professional graphic designer whose main duty is building a magazine so I know what goes into it. Retro Review has a nice ring to it-don't go stealing it without some props, haha. Thanks. :bolian:

We're veering off topic, I think - but the Voyager issue and 2 of the movie related issues will be perfect bound (the one you like) because of the page count.

I am looking forward for this one. A friend of mine in US promised to send me it. *is happy*
