Yes, issue 38 will include material on Enterprise's 10th anniversary - I'm hoping for a special interview but that's yet to be confirmed. As you hopefully know if you read the magazine regularly, we give full coverage to all the book releases...

Since I've been away from this forum for some time, just an update on the magazine - issue 38 is heading to the printers, and will be on newsstands around Thanksgiving. And it includes an interview with Captain Archer himself, Scott Bakula, as well as an extract from Mike's book (which because of schedule changes, of course, is now out!) That's a bit later than you might have expected - and 39 will be later still, as STM goes onto a quarterly schedule for 2012.

39 will also be my last issue of the magazine as editor, and will include the conclusion of the 45s, and features on spies and spying in the Trek universe, plus an interview with Andy Robinson.

Although I will post here again once that issue's out, thanks to everyone for their comments and criticisms over the past 5 years - and particularly to those of you I had the chance to meet at Shore Leave this past summer.

Maybe I'm just being dense but on my end the title of the thread is Star Trek Magazine 38. What about that would imply where it may or may not be available? Did the title of the thread get changed between the time you replied and the time I read it? I'm feeling slow this afternoon. What am I missing?

^The issue numbers in the UK are different than they are in the US, since the UK magazine was published for years in that country before Titan got the US license (or whatever). So #38 in the US would be #165 in the UK.

Well normally when threads about the magazine are started by Paul, he says the issue number here in the UK as it's been going for something like 15 plus years here (when it was known as Star Trek Monthly and was out monthly) as well as the issue number for the States. Given he didn't mention the UK issue number and he didn't also announce when the issue would be available here and that I've not seen it in WHSmiths for over a year it led me to believe that it is no long on sale in the UK.

No, it's still on sale in Britain. I've amended the thread title!

The issue will be available in the UK roughly 2 weeks after the US (I think it's actually 5th December technically but I wouldn't swear to that, particularly with Christmas coming up). With regard to its availability in W H Smiths, that's something that has concerned me for some time, but it wasn't part of my remit.

Thank you; I certainly intend that I go out on a high - and my thanks publicly to the many writers who've expressed their support over the past few weeks, and have volunteered their services for my final issues.

Trying to come up with new and interesting material to cover has to be pretty tough. After all what else can really be told about Star Trek until either a new movie is released or they finally revive Star Trek on the small screen where it properly belongs, in my opinion. Again thanks to you both. I've never had a problem with finding material to fit the magazine - as I said in an interview a couple of years back, with 11 movies, 726 hours of material and all the spin off novels and comics, there's a whole wealth of untapped material out there. But the economics dictate the situation: it's a sad, but true, fact that magazines are where people cut back in times of recession, and what I would encourage everyone to do is subscribe, either to the digital version, or to the print magazine, if you want to ensure that it continues. Absolutely no magazine title is guaranteed forever - think how many official Trek mags have come and gone over the years!

Out of interest, how would people on here feel if the mag were purely produced digitally, rather than print as well? Would you still want to read it?

To answer your question Paul I prefer to have a printed edition of the magazine.I like having a real physical copy of a magazine. unfortunately computers crash .They breakdown you can lose all your files. I think it's good to have the option for people to have a choice of being able to subscribing if they want to have the printed edition or e-version of Startrek magazine.For people who have older computers the software to download the computer files maybe uncompatable and may cause problems trying to download e- versions of the magazine.

I think going to a quarterly is a good move. Personally, it'll be easier for me to make sure I'll be able to get the next issue, and it'll be more of an event when it comes out.

As for digital vs. dead tree, gimme the dead tree version every time. Even if I manage to get an iPad or something similar, I still prefer to flip through the pages at my own pace in any order I like (every once in a while, I like starting at the back, just to be odd).

Just to be absolutely clear, folks, there's no suggestion that this is something that Titan are planning to do, as far as I'm aware - it was more from my own interest, particularly as, with Sci-Fi Bulletin, I'm doing more digitally myself now.
