ESCAPE

Jack Bauer, believed to be mortally wounded by a gunshot to the back of his head, was put inside a stasis canister in the early twenty-first century. So was the body of a ruthless killer, Thomas Devron, who had brutally killed Jack’s daughter and her child. Devron had been part of a cabal to replace all the world’s rulers with clones. Killing Bauer’s daughter was an act of attrition.

Awakened three hundred years in the future, Thomas Devron would soon continue his murdering ways.

Upon finding historic data about Jack Bauer, Admiral Picard ordered that Jack Bauer be brought back from the “dead” as well to stop Devron. To that end, Admiral Picard assigned a Starfleet officer to act as Bauer’s guide in the twenty-fourth century. The officer is named Lieutenant Mnu Subrelqui, or as he demands to be called, Stan.

Former Starship Captain, and legend, Benjamin Maxwell, has come to see that Starfleet is not a force of good, but actually an agency that far too powerful. The only way for Starfleet to pay for its sins is for it to be brought down, even if it means destroying the Federation in the process.

Jack Bauer, now teamed with the alien who was sent back into the past to facilitate Jack’s fake death, is in a race against time to try and stop Maxwell from using antiquated nuclear technology to destroy the Federation.

We now continue

Jack Bauer was surrounded by men holding various types of weapons. They were part of the team that had been working for former Starfleet Captain Ben Maxwell, and his attempt to seize centuries old Nuclear Warheads. The cabal believed that Starfleet was too powerful, and needed to be taken down to bring true peace to the galaxy.

“I should kill you now,” the squadron leader, Lt. Bandis, said to Jack.

Suddenly, one of Bandis’s men came over to him.

“Sir,” the younger officer, a young human named Corporal Mills, “according to our data, one of the warheads has been activated.”

“What?” Both Jack and Bandis asked.

“It was activated by Thomas Devron,” Mills added. “Plus, Captain Maxwell is dead.”

“Are you certain?” Bandis asked. “I just saw him moments ago.”

“He was killed by the Aquatic being.” Mills said.

“Maxwell was using its family as leverage,” Bandis said, “can’t say that I wouldn’t have done the same thing, having been given a chance.”

Mills showed Bandis a Tricorder, and then Bandis motioned for Jack to look at it as well.

“Can you stop this thing?” Bandis asked.

“I’m not sure,” Jack said. “We have barely 12 minutes before it goes off. I think you better evacuate your men while I try.”

“Listen,” Bandis said to Jack. “We’re here to secure those weapons. I am not a fool; you’re the kind of man who would rather kill all of us rather than let us get those things off this planet.”

Suddenly, shimmering into existence was a transporter pattern. It solidified; it was Picard.

“It’s about time!” Jack said to Picard.

“Wrong Picard,” Picard said. “Lt. Bandis, what is your status? I have brought two starships loyal to our cause. Can we bring the warheads wp?”

“Maxwell is dead,” Bandis reported. “We have the warheads lined up, but,” Bandis said motioning to Bauer, “this man and Devron have delayed our progress. And now, one of the warheads is counting down.”

“Very well,” Picard said. “We’ll just have to retreat to the back-up plan. Get your men off this planet before that thing goes off.”

“Who are you?” Bauer asked.

“I’m now the leader of this movement to expose the treachery of Starfleet. First it was Chakotay, then Maxwell, now it my turn. As long as people think I’m Jean-Luc Picard, everything will happen as planned.” Picard said.

--

Thomas Devron had made his way outside into the bitter cold. Snow was falling quite hard, but he was able to make his way to the transport ship he had piloted to get himself to Trident Gamma Seven. He was about to board it when suddenly, from out of nowhere, Stan tackled him.

The two men fell to the ground.

“You activated that weapon,” Stan said, “and you think you can just waltz out of here. No way huuuman! You are going to die like the rest of us!”

Stan punched Devron. But Devron was a trained fighter and was able to roll back to his feet.

“I am amazed,” Devron said, “with how many different aliens there are here in the future. But your race,” Devron said, “is about the most disgusting looking I have seen.”

Devron was able to land to roundhouse kicks to Stan, throwing the aquatic being back, smashing into the pavement, which was headed, and didn’t allow snow to build up on it.

Stan was able to get back to his feet, but Devron had already picked up a large chunk of the pavement, no doubt worn out over time. It was the size of a large boulder, with jagged edges, and Devron held it like a weapon. Before Stan got his bearings, Devron smashed the boulder on Stan’s head, crashing him back down to the ground. As quick as lightning, Devron straddled Stan, and held the jagged edges of the rock to his neck.

--
Picard spoke to Bandis.

“We’ll have to get out of here,” Picard told Bandis. “Prepare your men for beam-up; we have less than ten-minutes to get out of here.” Picard ordered.

Bandis and his men began to pack up their gear.

“What about me?” Bauer asked Picard.

Picard looked around, and then spoke softly to Bauer.

“It’s me Jack,” Picard said. “I am not the imposter, it is really me. Thanks to the efforts of my wife, and a friend of ours, they were able to infiltrate Maxwell’s efforts, and free me. We’re trying to stop what is going on. I am going to leave you here to die, when the bomb goes off. But really, I need you to get off this planet once we do, and continue your investigation. It isn’t over yet. We know there is some kind of back-up..”

Suddenly Bandis came over.

“My men and I are ready to go, sir,” Bandis said.

“Very well,” Picard said.

Suddenly, and without warning, Picard took out a phaser and blasted Bauer in the chest with it, throwing him to the ground.

“Let him die, among these antiquated weapons.” Picard said. “It seems appropriate.”

Bandis smiled.

Moments later, Picard, Bandis, and the rest of the team were beamed away. Once they were gone, Jack sprang into action. The phaser blast that Picard had fired at him was only a mild shock. Jack knew he had, at best, five minutes to get off the planet before the bomb went off. But first he had to find Stan. Jack ran over to the Panaran, which was still standing in the center of the warehouse. Obviously the creature was slow, meaning, didn’t realize what was going on.

“You have to get out of here,” Jack said. “The way you were able to move you limbs, and fold them earlier, can you do that again?”

Yes, Human. I can fold, as Chakotay explained.

“Good,” Jack said, “my ship is out there. We need to get out of here as fast…”

Suddenly Jack’s words were cut short by a stream of energy that streaked across the warehouse and struck the Panaran, exploding the creature.

We now continue

Jack Bauer had faced the barrel of a gun, or in this case a phaser, many times before. Sudden death had always been a companion of his, and now was no exception. As Devron prepared to fire, Jack could only stand still and accept his fate.

“Why?” Jack asked. “Why did you have to kill my daughter?” Jack asked.

Devron dropped Stan’s head to the ground, and kicked it down one of the many rows of nuclear missiles.

“Why wouldn’t I?” Devron answered. “That’s what happens when good people, like your daughter, are born into the world to a father like you. How does it feel knowing that she would have lived a normal life had she not been your daughter? You killed her Bauer! Not me! And so I I knew by tearing her ass up like that I would anger you, and cause you to lose focus. And,” Devron said as a smile came over his face, “she didn’t disappoint either.”

Jack had heard enough, and the urge to kill Devron had risen to a degree he had never known before. He had never hated another human being as much as he hated Devron now. But was Devron right? No; he wasn’t. From Terry’s death, to Kim’s, Jack had come to the conclusion that they were events beyond his control. He no longer blamed himself for what was, for what had happened. But he still hated Devron; very much.

Suddenly, Jack’s hand whirled into action. The small knife he had tucked away in his sleeve upon arriving at this cold world, flew through the air, diving into Devron’s head, killing him.

Then suddenly, without warning, Jack began to dissolve. He was being transported; but to where? Jack did not know.

--

Nearly two minutes later it happened. The nuclear warhead that Devron had activated exploded. A massive mushroom cloud of destruction destroyed the warehouse of 300+ old weapons of mass destruction.

--

Above the planet were over two dozen starships. Various classes were represented in the collected armada. One of the ships was the USS ENTERPRISE-G. It was, and had been, Admiral Picard’s flagship, for nearly five years.

Jack Bauer stood on the bridge of the Enterprise and watched the explosions on the planet below. He smiled. He smiled because at last, Earth’s Nuclear Weapon age was over. From the moment they were first used to end WW2, and through the centuries beyond, they had been constant reminders of mankind’s two greatest attributes; the wonder of the mind and the evil in his soul.

And Devron was finally dead as well. Jack had to admit that it was a good feeling knowing that monster was dead. Though, Jack admitted, he didn’t like those kinds of thoughts. But sometimes a man had to be a man; and Devron had to die.

Jack turned around to face Picard, who was sitting in the command chair.

“Seeing them destroyed like that,” Picard said to Jack, “must be like seeing the epitaph of one’s enemy.”

Jack nodded. “Yes sir,” Jack said to Picard, “now, would you please tell me what happened?”

At that instant, Captain Beverly Crusher-Picard, and two men, who looked like twins, came on to the bridge. One of them was obviously Starfleet, but the other looked like a pirate from the 17th century.

“Hello Mr. Bauer,” Beverly said, “it’s good to see you again.”

“Thank you,” Jack said, “though I am at a loss as to how.”

“I’m afraid,” Beverly said, “you have these two to blame for that.”

“William Riker,” W. Riker said as he reached out his hand.

Jack shook it, as well as the hand from the Riker with the eye patch and long straggly hair.

“Thomas,” T Riker said. “So you’re Jack Bauer, the man I keep hearing about who clan slay dragons and save the world. Somehow I thought you would be taller.”

A small laugh was shared by all. Jack looked to Picard for an explanation.

“Thomas Riker,” Picard explained to Jack, “was able to infiltrate Maxwell’s forces back on Earth, with a little cosmetic help, to say the least, from my wife Beverly. Eventually they got word to Starfleet as to what was happening. When Maxwell left with his men to come here, Trident Gamma Seven, that is when Starfleet made their move back at Earth and a covert team was able to take down the Earth equation of this,” Picard searched for the best word, one he knew Jack was well accustomed to “cabal. A small armada was sent to this system to prevent Maxwell from obtaining the nuclear devices, and to put a stop to it all.”

“So, it’s over?” Jack asked.

“Yes,” Picard said. “Though, I am very sorry we were unable to save Mnu Subrelqui.”

“What will you do with your life now?” Beverly Crusher-Picard asked Jack.

“Others from your time,” William Riker told Jack, “have found themselves in this time. “They were able to fit into the future, with a little help.”

But Jack already had an idea of what he had to do next.

“So you’re William Riker,” Jack said. “I noticed your name on some of the items inside your ship. I’m sorry about the Trump-Card.”

“Ha!” Thomas Riker suddenly said. “You thought that was his ship?” Thomas Riker corrected. “As I recall, it became mine after our last hand of Texas-hold’m.”

Captain Will Riker nodded.

“Yes,” W Riker said with a smile. “It is indeed.” And then he looked to Jack. “And no, if you’re wondering Jack, it wasn’t destroyed. Thomas and I beamed down and got it off that planet just as you were being beamed off the planet. There was no way I was going to let that ship perish like that; no way in hell. She’s probably the only of her kind.”

It was time to spring his plan on to Picard.

“Admiral,” Jack said, “I have a debt to repay. I was wondering if you would have any problem with…”

Jack told Picard his plan.

The Trump-Card came out of warp and entered the Panaran star-system. The journey to the distant world had taken three weeks, which included three stopovers along the way. But Jack Bauer and Thomas Riker were not deterred by the long travel time. Jack, eager to pay back the debt he owed the Panaran who had saved his life back on Gamma Trident Seven, was hopeful he would find the Panaran’s world safe and secure. But as the Trump-card approached the planet’s coordinates it was clear there would be no happy ending. Chunks of planetary debris were scattered through-out the system; Panara had been destroyed.

“My God,” Thomas said as he piloted the ship around the debris, trying his best to avoid most of it, with the deflectors taking care of the rest.

“What could do something like this?” Jack asked, almost in a state of shock. “And why wouldn’t your Federation know about this already?”

“This planet was at the edge of Federation space,” Thomas said. “Not much traffic comes out this way, so it’s possible something like this could happen. I’m sorry Jack; I wish it didn’t have to end this way.”

“We have to find whoever did this,” Jack said to Thomas. “Someone has to pay!”

Thomas began to scan the area for any kind of clue.

“What are you doing?” Jack asked.

“Well,” Thomas said, “destroying an entire planet isn’t the easiest thing to do. If they used massive amounts of weapons, a bombardment from space for example, then it will be easy to tell. Or,” Thomas said as he worked the controls, “maybe they used an exotic weapon of some kind, like the Red Matter that has been in the news lately.”

Jack looked at the massive amounts of planetary debris. An entire world, a civilization no less, had been destroyed. In Jack’s time, saving a nation was child’s play compared to the stakes of this future time.

Thomas Riker piloted the Trump-Card to an area mostly free of debris and then brought the Trump-Card to a stop.

“What now?” Jack asked as he watched Thomas go into action through-out the cockpit of the ship.

“This ship was built for smuggling,” Thomas said as he started to press buttons on the array of control panels. “This bucket-of-bolts has more sensing equipment than most the ships in Starfleet.”

“Do you think there is something here to find?” Jack asked.

“I do,” Thomas answered. “Either we will find answers or we won’t. If we don’t find any answers, then that alone will ask more questions,” Thomas said. As he spoke he adjusted the eye-patch that covered his left eye. “I’m not the most personal person there is,” Thomas added, “but even I can’t stand the fact that a world was destroyed like this.”

Jack stood up and came over to where Thomas was.

“Can I do anything to help?” Jack asked.

“Yeah,” Thomas replied, “there is. In the back compartment, on the Starboard side, you’ll find a bag with all kinds of interesting tools. Can you bring it up here?” Thomas asked as he climbed under one of the control panels.

“Sure thing,” Jack said.

Jack headed out of the forward compartment. He was walking down the main corridor when suddenly, up ahead, he saw a large pink bouncing ball. It was the kind of ball children played with. He froze.

“Hello?” Jack asked. “Is there anyone there?”

He watched as the ball rolled down the corridor, away from him, and then watched as one of the doors opened, and closed, upon the ball entering the next compartment. It was the strangest thing had seen in quite sometime. The ball, the way it was rolling, seemed to have been thrown from where Jack was now standing. Jack closed his eyes, and shook his head. Maybe it was due to the lack of sleep, or left over stress from the whole incident with Maxwell and Devron. Jack continued his trek down the corridor. He finally came upon the main entrance to the rear compartment, where hopefully he would find the collection of tools that Thomas needed. But as he approached the door, he saw something very interesting leaning up against it; A black umbrella.

Jack came to a stop, at least ten feet from the door. And as he did, he heard a sound from behind. He turned to see the pink ball rolling toward him from behind. He stepped out of the way and watched as the ball continued on and came to a stop next to the umbrella. Acting on impulse, Jack drew out the gun he now kept strapped to his left calf.

“I know you’re around here somewhere!” Jack said out loud. “I warn you; I am armed. Show yourself!” Jack demanded.

--
The Eyes of the Umbrella People opened. They looked across the fabric of the universe and they saw a very small speck of life. The Eyes of the Umbrella People began to weep. Ever so much than the difference of rain, or the softest voice, they reasoned with the known reality and could only cast pity.

--
Jack was suddenly startled when the umbrella snapped open, and then the door to the aft compartment slid open as well. The ball, no longer held back by the door, began to roll into the compartment, having been nudged by the umbrella when it had opened. Jack, ever cautiously, entered the compartment as well, his gun drawn.

--
Thomas Riker, underneath the control panel, was busy adjusting several of the control rods when suddenly he heard the sound of footsteps.

“It’s about time,” Thomas said, believing the footsteps belonged to Jack.

Though he was underneath the control panel, Thomas could still see out past his legs. And what he saw was, to the say the least, very mesmerizing. He saw pair of women’s feet, clad only in nylons. One of the feet lifted into the air, slightly, and then started to playfully play with one of his legs. He knew that gesture very well, and the person who loved to do that to him when ever he was repairing a conduit or a computer station. He smiled as the flood of memories flashed before his eyes.

They met while POWs on one of Cardassia’s prison worlds. Then, when the Klingon attacked Cardassia, and freed them, they rejoined the Maquis and later helped in the battle against the Dominion. By that time they had been married. Her name was Torey.

Torey was a mix of Native American and Bajoran parents. She was as exotic as she was beautiful, and she was very beautiful. She was also very tough, very strong. And it was the happiest day of his life when she gave birth to their only child; Jomah. The three of them shared many years before an unexpected accident took his wife, Torey, from his life. Thomas had been forced to raise Jomah by himself.

Thomas shook his head, and wiped his eyes, as he snapped out of his memories. The foot that was cloying at his leg in a playful manner could not possibly have belonged to his wife, who had been dead for five years.

“Who are you?” Thomas asked.

He began to back himself up, out from behind the control panel. He had to see who this person was, this person who was imitating his dead wife. He crawled backward enough, and looked up to see who the person was. Whoever it was, their face was obscured by a black umbrella that was fanned out, covering the upper area of their body.

--

Jack Bauer rummaged through the compartment and finally found the bag that contained the tools. He turned to leave when he came face to face with Terri; his long dead wife from centuries ago. Before Jack could react, Terri reached out and grabbed him and held him close. Her lips found his and, and even though he knew it couldn’t be, he began to kiss her; very hard. His arms surrounded her and pulled her closer as the passion of the kiss drove him on.

--
As both men, Jack Bauer and Thomas Riker, were lost in the return of their dead wives, they were unaware that they were being watched by the Eyes of the Umbrella People.

Admiral Picard, fresh from his latest debriefing at Star Fleet Command which went over the events at Gamma Trident Seven and the entire cabal led by Chakotay and Maxwell, arrived at his office in the massive complex in San Francisco. On his desk someone had left a report he had asked for. He slipped the data slip into the interface on his computer.

Chapter Two

The spray of the waterfall created a small rainbow illusion around the secluded natural pool, which was hidden inside a maze of rocks and trees in the massive envelope of trees and flowers, and rock canyons that surrounded the private retreat. Jack and Terri had arrived at the private retreat only one day ago, and were already enjoying their honeymoon.

Jack had fallen in love with Terri at almost first sight. While doing security work on the side for a Californian Senator, Jack met Terri, who was one of the Senator’s secretaries, quite by accident. She had rear-ended Jack’s 68’ mustang while coming out of the Senator’s estate. The damage to his car was quite small, but when he saw her that first time, he knew he had to string it out. She was beautiful, and more importantly, she had a confident look to her as well.

Four months later they were married. And the honeymoon, a gift from the Senator, was the culmination of three months of courting, and mad love making, and Jack now, in the secluded natural pool, with Terri in his arms, Jack could be no more happier than he was.

And yet, as he watched her climb out of the pool, and make her way up to the top of the small waterfall for another dive, he couldn’t help but feel as if he had been here before, and had already lived this moment of his life. He didn’t mind it, not in the least. He didn’t mind it in the least, especially since Terri had playfully removed her bikini and was very naked, and very sexy, climbing the steps to the top of the waterfall. She hadn’t removed her bikini for any other reason than for him; and that aroused him as well.

“Are you ready to see my special dive?” She asked him with a look of lust in her eyes.

“Oh,” Jack said as he leaned up against the rock edge of the pool, “what is your special dive?”

“Well,” she said with a sexy tone in her voice, “I was the top cheerleader in my junior year, as voted by the football team. Do you know why that is?”

“You got banged by them all?” Jack asked with a laugh.

“Well,” she said, “that’s not the only reason. I won because I could spread my legs the widest at the top of the throw,” Terri said, “and that’s what won it for me.”

“I see,” Jack said. “Do you think you still got it in you? You’re not a young spring chicken anymore.” Jack teased.

“Let’s see,” Terri said as she stepped to the end of the rock face and prepared to jump off the side of the waterfall.

--
The scene between Jack and Terri was not only being enjoyed by the two lovers themselves, but it was also being witnessed by the Eyes of the Umbrella People. To them, such interaction between the level of life forms which Jack and Terri were was amusing and, in some cases, needed. It was one of the only ways they could maintain any kind of connection to the life that swam through the corridors of existence in this universe.

--
Admiral Picard strode through the walls of Starfleet Academy. He stopped as he made his way through one of the main award rooms, its walls adorned by cadets from the past and their various successes. One of the images, playing in a constant loop on the wall, showed a very young Picard, with hair even, winning an award for the long jump in one of the athletic competitions. There were other images as well; in fact one of his favorites was the Academy Piano Competitions which had been won by a young Benjamin Sisko, who also had a lot of hair back then as well. A loop played on another wall showing his masterful keystrokes on a piano during one of the pieces he played.

“I like that one too,” a voice said from behind Picard.

Picard turned around to see Master Chief Miles O’Brien, not clad in a beard, standing there.

“He was quite the pianist,” Picard added. “Still is, from what I’ve heard.”

O’Brien came over and shook the hands of his former Captain, Admiral Picard.

“It’s good to see you sir,” O’Brien said. “That whole ordeal with Maxwell and his plan to destroy Starfleet is still quite hard to believe.”

“I know,” Picard replied. “He was a great man, and that’s how I will remember him. He just went astray somewhere along the way. His fears about a Starfleet Command out of control were not with out some merit. And I have taken it upon myself to make sure that Starfleet is an instrument of the Federation, not the other way around.”

“Your message said you needed to see me about my time with Captain Maxwell on the Rutledge.” O’Brien said as he, and Picard, sat at one of the tables in the award room.

“Yes,” Picard said. “What can you tell me about the first contact mission with the Panaran?”

O’Brien thought for a moment, and then answered.

“Nothing remarkable,” O’Brien said, “well, except for the fact that these beings were twenty-feet tall, or better, and had superior telepathic abilities. But at their core, they were one of the most peaceful races I have ever come across. Their planet is on the outskirts of Federation space, and from what I know, their membership in the Federation was accepted and I haven’t heard much since then.”

“One of the Panarans was assisting Maxwell,” Picard told O’Brien. “And, to make along story short, we are wondering why one of Panarans would assist Maxwell on his attempt to subvert Starfleet.”

“All I can say,” O’Brien said, “is that when we arrived at Panara, Captain Maxwell met with one of the leaders of their world. But as I recall now,” O’Brien said, “we left a science team, along with sociologists and the like, behind so as to begin early exchange of information. All pretty innocent, nothing out of the ordinary.”

“That part of the galaxy has some most interesting inhabitants,” Picard said. “Not only is Panaran in that sector, so is the Talos star system. Both races rate rather high on the telepathic scale.” Picard added.

“We actually came with-in a parsec of Talosian space,” O’Brien recalled. “I have to admit that at the time, and this was when I was much younger than I am now, it felt very strange to be near Talos IV.”

“Oh,” Picard said with a smile, “I quite understand. There have been a fair amount of stories about that era of space over the past century or so.” Picard said.

The two men stood up and Picard shook hands with O’Brien.

“Well,” Picard said to O’Brien, “I won’t keep you from your class.”

“It was good to see you sir,” O’Brien replied with a smile.

O’Brien watched as Picard made his way out of the awards room. He wanted to share more with Picard, because there was much more to share.

Chapter Three

umbrella.jpg

Years ago…during the Dominion War.

The Trump-Card was in for it this time. Thomas Riker piloted the ship as best as he could, but the two Jem-Hedar attack vessels on his tail were very maneuverable as well. His hands glided across the control consol and a volley of photons fired from the aft turrets, and streaked towards the Jem-Hedar.

“Shit,” Riker said as the tactical display coldly stated the fact that the photons had missed.

Riker was quickly running out of weapons to fire at the Jem-Hedar. He looked back at his young wife, Torey, as she held their new born son, Jomah.

“Honey,” Riker said, “I don’t think we’re going to get out of this one.”

Her proud Bajoran features, mixed with her Native-American features, made her fierce looking, even at this time.

“We will go down like warriors,” Torey said as she adjusted the bottle she was using to feed the infant. “Can you hand me a diaper?”

Riker angled the ship sharply to the left and then reached into her travel bag and pulled out a diaper. One would think, by the 24th century, diapers would not be needed; but they were if the ship you were on didn’t have proper waste controls.

Torey expertly removed the diaper (note to reader; I envy her) and discarded the stinky poop filled diaper out the waste-lock. And then she expertly put the new clean diaper on the baby’s smooth rump.

The poopy diaper splattered on the windshield of the Jem-Hedar fighter, further angering the Jem-Hedar inside the beetle-shaped craft.

“You’re going to have to do it,” Torey said. “The Spider roll,” she added.

Riker, who was still very busy avoiding the Jem-Hedar blasts, shook his head.

“No way,” Thomas Riker Replied, “I am not doing the Spider roll with the two of you back there. Its way too dangerous, and you know it!”

“We don’t have time to argue,” Torey said. “We’ll be fine back here; just do it!”

The Spider roll, which was taught to Riker by his old Nausicaan friend Ba’kooth, was very risky. It required the Trump-Card to spin on its axis as it flung backwards against the ships in pursuit. The last time they had tried it, several of the smuggling crew that Riker and Torey had once worked with, were killed.

But Torey was right, there was no other choice.

“Alright,” Riker finally said, “get ready.”

Torey strapped herself in one of the passenger seats, and she strapped Jomah into the other one. She kissed her child on the top of the head, somehow knowing it might be her last time to do so. Her own mother had been murdered by a Cardassian, right before her eyes. Torey was thankful that the Prophets had seen to make Jomah fall asleep as soon as she kissed him.

“Here we go!” Riker yelled out.

Suddenly, and quite by surprise, the Jem-Hedar were startled as the Trump-Card began to spin on its axis, firing all her weapons as she did so. The two Jem-Hedar attack ships were taken off guard, and were shredded to pieces by the Trump-cards rapid fire motion. The artificial gravity field of the Trump-card came and went several times during the maneuver. Riker cheered as both Jem-Hedar ships exploded.

Then he looked back, and saw this Torey’s strap had come off her seat. She had been thrown against the far wall in the confusion and sound of the move. He rushed back to her. She was still alive, but it was clear she was dying before his eyes.

“I knew it would work,” she told him with a faint voice.

Riker held her close, as close as any man could do when his wife was slowly fading away. But then, in the next moment, she was on top of him, kissing him in the present, as he was making repairs on the Trump-card. Her tongue found his, and his natural instincts took over. He didn’t say a word as the passion took over.

He abruptly pulled off her shirt, exposing her naked breast. She reached inside his slacks and found him quite aroused. It was like old times, old and wonderful times. The very fact that she had been dead for over ten years did not matter to Riker. She was back, in the here and now, and he still so much needed her.

--
The Umbrella People had never known such passion as Riker and Torey were sharing. They watched the two humans make wild and fanatic love, and they, the Umbrella People, experienced the raw passion, the primal emotions that such love making brought out. It was why such emotions had been banned eons ago, but was so present in their longing to live.

Jack Bauer took a drag from the joint he pressed between his lips. Terri was still sleeping, naked, next to him. It was way past midnight, and the two had used their picnic blanket as a sleeping blanket, and slept on the soft ground near the waterfall they had enjoyed earlier. The sky above them was covered in stars, which for some reason, seemed to be millions upon millions of eyes staring down from the sky. Jack felt as though he was in heaven, and he never wanted to leave. And yet, somewhere in the back of his mind, was the feeling as if he had to leave; had to go back into the world. But the love making with Terri, and the joint, were making it difficult to focus. But then, out of nowhere, his mind flashed back to the moment he came into his daughter Kim’s house and found her dead, on the floor of her bedroom. A gunshot to her head, and the head of her own daughter, had ended both their lives.

But how could that be, Jack asked himself. He had just married Terri, not more than a week ago, and already he had memories of a daughter who he loved very much. Was he losing his mind?

STAR TREK: JACK BAUER
Eyes of the Umbrella People
Chapter Three

(Jack Bauer and Thomas Riker, while investigating the destruction of the Panran home world, found themselves living out their past lives in the most vivid memories one could possibly imagine.)

There was absolute silence, as Jack Bauer opened his eyes. He was on the ground, in one of the Trump-Card’s corridors. Seconds before, he was with Terri, in Hawaii, sharing their honeymoon with her. His skin still felt warm from passionate love making they had done earlier in the evening. But now, all of a sudden, all of that was gone.

“Bauer!”

Jack became more alert upon hearing his named blared through the ship by the intercom system.

“Bauer, report, now!” The voice demanded.

For a moment, due the fogginess of his mind, Jack didn’t know where he was. And then, gradually, it all came back. He was aboard the Trump-card. He and Thomas Riker had been sent to find the home world of the Panaran who had saved Jack’s life during the showdown with Ben Maxwell back on that frozen world.

Jack headed towards the cockpit of the Trump-card. And as he ran, his mind was flooded with images of Terri, and his even more images of his time with CTU. It was almost as if someone was inside his mind, reading his life, and Jack was just observing the pages of his life go by one at a time. He saw vivid images of the time he was forced to shoot Ryan Chappelle. He saw images of himself torturing suspect after suspect. And try as he might, Jack could not make the flood of memories stop. Finally, and nearly out of breath, Jack made it to the Trump-Card’s cockpit.

“Before you say anything,” Thomas Riker said, while sitting in the pilot seat of the Trump-Card, “Did you just experience a flood of memories so vivid, so real, that you thought you were there?”

Jack nodded, and sat down in the passenger seat.

“Yes,” Jack said softly. “I was with my wife, she was alive, and we were re-living our honeymoon.” Jack said with a smile. “It was more than a memory,” Jack said, “it was as if I was there.”

“I lost my wife many years ago as well,” Thomas said, “and moments ago, as I was working on one of these panels next to your seat, she appeared. And just like your time with your wife, it seemed real; too real to be just a memory.”

“The flood of memories is still there,” Jack said to Thomas, “I can still see them in my mind. Its almost as if someone is reading my mind like a book, and I’m just watching them do it.”

“It’s happening to me too,” Thomas said. “Panara was destroyed; we know this to be a fact. So, I do not think our minds are being manipulated by them.”

Suddenly there was movement coming from the back of the passenger cabin, which both Jack and Thomas could see. And then, from out of nowhere, there was a strange alien being standing in the back of the cabin; staring at them. The alien, which stood upon what appeared to be seven legs, had teal colored skin, which glistened with moisture. Its head was huge, disproportioned to the rest of its body, and had what appeared to be two eyes, though very strange in composition.

Thomas was about to confront the alien, when suddenly both he, and Jack, felt a stabbing pain in their minds.

“DO YOU FEEL THAT?” Thomas yelled, as if the pain inside his mind was filled with sound and blood.

“YES,” Jack replied, “WHAT IS THAT?”

“I DON’T KNOW,” Thomas said. “THE ALIEN IS OBVIOULSY SOME KIND OF TELEPATH. STRANGELY ENOUGH, I DON’T THINK ITS ATTACKING US ON PURPOSE.” Thomas concluded. Then, with out warning, Thomas fell to the ground.

Jack struggled to keep his eyes opened, and looked back toward the alien. Then Jack looked back to Thomas, who had collapsed on the ground. Blood began to stream out of Riker’s nose and mouth. Jack felt for his pulse; it was barely there. The pain inside of Jack’s mind became unbearable, as the screeching sound in his mind became louder.

“WHAT EVER YOU ARE, STOP THIS!” Jack yelled at the alien, with its cold, blank eyes, staring back at him. “YOU’RE KILLING MY FRIEND! IF YOU DON’T STOP I WILL DIE AS WELL. PLEASE STOP!”

Instantly the screeching inside of Jack’s mind, and the stabbing pain as well, stopped and the alien was gone. The cold silence of the Trump-Card’s passenger cabin returned. Jack checked on Thomas, and it was clear that Thomas was suffering from shock. Jack found an old and outdated emergency medical pack, and found a hypo that was listed with a worn and old label. It was some kind of tranquilizer. Jack administered the shot, so that Thomas cold rest.

EARTH
San Diego

Jean-Luc Picard sat alone at Mount Soledad park, which over looked the greater San Diego area. From his vantage point he could see the centuries old air-strip that had once been called Mira Mar. He could also see the incredible bay of San Diego, and the rustic hilltops in the distant east. And, from where he stood, he could see the modern city area of San Diego. The five-mile high sky scraper, which dominated the city, was not the largest skyscraper on Earth, but it was no doubt one of the most beautiful ones. Had it not been for the stabilization of California’s volatile faults, the modern cities of California would not exist at all.

Suddenly another figure shimmered into view. Admiral Picard smiled as Admiral Dumet, the first Cardassian to reach the rank of Admiral in Starfleet, ever since Cardassia’s admittance to the Federation, came into views.

“It is good to see you Admiral,” Picard said as the two old friends shook hands.

Dumet, who was part of the negotiation team that led to Cardassia Prime entering the Federation, had become a good friend of Picard’s since that time. Dumet was now part of Starfleet Command’s security threat division.

“And it is always good to see you,” Dumet said. “However, the coldness of this place I shall not ever hope to re-visit.”

“Actually,” Picard said as the two sat at a nearby bench, “San Diego can actually get quite warm in the summer. Thank you for coming.”

“I'll remember that. Now, normally,” Dumet said, “I would not give into such a request as yours. However, Jean-Luc, I believe your reasons for wanting to see this data is quite with-in the bounds of my authority.”

STAR TREK: JACK BAUER
Eyes of the Umbrella People
Chapter Five

umbrella.jpg

Even though Jack Bauer was a newcomer to the twenty-forth century, he had already picked up the basic abilities, and knowledge needed, to operate the Trump-Card. He took the controls, and set a course to leave the strange area of space they were in. The Pacan planet had obviously been destroyed. There was still interference affecting the use of the communications station. Jack had to escape the interference so he could send a signal to Admiral Picard, and let him know there still had to be rebel elements of Starfleet still active.

Suddenly Jack felt something on his shoulder; it was one of the strange tentacles of the strange alien.

“Chloe,” Jack said into the CTU-matrix headset, “its one of those aliens. I don’t want to kill it unless I have to, what can you tell me about them?”

“Jack,” Chloe said from her desk inside the CTU-matrix, “there is no alien race, such as you described to us earlier, that matches this alien’s profile.”

“Are you able to penetrate the interference from in there?” Jack said as he held his gun trained on the alien, as it just stood before him in the doorway of the cockpit.

Jack was starting to see this development in a new way. He had always lived in life with a shoot and take names later kind of way. And in respects to the alien, had Jack been younger, and not as seasoned as he had become, he might have shot the alien on sight. But the alien was not trying to invade Jack’s mind. There was no screeching sound in Jack’s mind as there had been earlier. Put simply? If the alien wanted to, it could have wiped the deck with Jack’s sorry ass; so why hadn’t?

“Jack,” came Chloe’s voice, “the area of the galaxy you are in contains many strange species with strong telepathic abilities. The Talosians, for example, is a race inhabiting a planet on a nearby system. Their mental abilities have advanced by such levels that they had to experience emotions through the actions of others. Perhaps this alien you are encountering possesses a similar ability.”

Jack listened to Chloe, and came to a strange decision. Perhaps, moments ago, when the alien had put a tentacle upon Jack’s shoulder, it had done so in an attempt to communicate with Jack.

Inside his mind, Jack laughed at the thought. He had always hated science fiction movies because they seemed so far fetched. So while his high-school friends when to the newest STAR WARS movies, he found an excuse not to, and ended up with some chic in the back of his car. If Jack went to a movie, usually it was because he had a date. He’d take the girl to a scary movie; Friday the Thirteenth, for example, so as to get her scared which would cause her to hold his hand. He’d bring his pick-up truck, put a large mattress in the back, and watch the movie snuggled up with his date. Eventually she’d want to snuggle more and more as the cool air began to take its affect. Jack was caught up in an old memory, when he shook his head.

He now wish he had seen a few more scifi movies than he had. Perhaps one of his goober friends would have come to the conclusion Jack had come to, but much earlier in the process. Jack lowered his weapon, all the while making constant eye contact with the alien’s strange set of eyes.

“Alright,” Jack said, “let’s try this again.”

The alien raised one of its tentacles and set it upon Jack’s shoulder. At that instant, Jack had no idea where he was; but contact was made.

--
Pachan was beautiful world. The inhabitants were, when fully grown, twenty-five foot bipeds that, to Jack, resembled those odd balloon-caricatures that businesses would use to advertise their store with. Jack could see thousands of Pachans doing what appeared to be mundane aspects of their life. There were smaller Pachans, children Jack surmised, playing in open fields. Jack concluded that the strange alien was showing the typical day and life of the Pachan.

Suddenly the clouds began to ripple, and a strange wave swept over setting, killing every Pachan in its wake. The image in Jack’s mind zoomed out, showing the entire world of the Pachan. The strange wave effect swept over the entire planet, and then, an instant later, the entire planet exploded. It was a most horrific event. As chunks of the planet flew off in every direction, Jack noticed one fact immediately; there was no evidence of any Starships. What ever had happened to the world was not done by bombardment from space, as Thomas Riker has speculated. If it were a weapon, Jack deduced, then it was by no conventional means. Another thought came to Jack’s mind; was it possible that the Pachan world had been destroyed by something else? And not a rebelling Starfleet attack force?

The image in Jack’s mind switched and showed another world.

“Is this the world that destroyed Pachan?” Jack asked out loud.

Suddenly the feeling...
