STAR TREK IV European Prologue

Another thing that was changed in the UK, on the VHS version, the titles were different. The words "THE VOYAGE HOME" were done in large, blue and white letters, with Star Trek IV, underneath, in much smaller writing, and none of it in the usual font that was used for the films.

It wasn't until I got a box set of the films, released for the 30th Anniversary, that I found out there was actually a 'proper' version!

Is that Youtube video taken directly from a PAL source? Everything seems oddly fast and slightly higher-pitched.

I have to say, that's simply amateurish and awful. I'm glad it never saw the light of day in North America. Horrible, horrible. Just start the movie with the probe.

Well, for audiences who never saw STIII, what can you do?

^^Yeah, we in Oz got that too. Probably because you guys did and we usually got your VHS decisions passed on to us. :)

^Yes. PAL.

Managed to find a copy, the VHS film used the same look for the main title as they did for the UK trailer:

Whereas, the US trailer had the much nicer looking tite:

Glad we weren't subjected to that here. I don't need a five minute clip show on the front of every movie that's a sequel to another movie.

Wait... the probe ball was used as the letter O? :wtf:

Interesting that so many of you seem to be bothered by this prologue. I think it gives these movies a more epic feel. I can see its redundancy when you watch these movies in a short span of time, at home on blu-ray or something. But originally in the movie theatre this must have been pretty neat.

I think that's brilliant! :)

Yeah... Why should the filmmakers make any effort to bring possible new viewers up to speed? Screw those guys!! It's their own fault for not seeing a movie that was barely released in their country!!!

As a North American viewer, it was interesting to see that for the first time. It's a nice summary of what happened in STIII with all the pertinent facts you need to enjoy IV. Thanks for posting it!
