Star Trek isn't up for an MTV best picture award

Well, the nominations were based on online voting. So don't complain if Trek fans are as dedicated as Twilight fans.

Star Trek will never, ever be cool enough for MTV. It was still considered "that stuff nerds like" when the nominations were being decided.

Jeez, Star Trek was on the list of films eligible for nominations, it just didn't get enough online votes. And Star Trek was cool enough to be included in a couple of segments at last year's MTV Movie Awards.

Exactly. Other films got more online votes.

They did, however, think Chris Pine could be a breakout star though.

Of course, MTV is owned by Viacom, which happens to also own Paramount Pictures...

Chris Pine got the "breakout star" nom, so it's not like Trek is "not cool enough" for MTV. MTV hasn't been the definition of cool for fifteen years or more at any rate.

I'm mildly surprised that Harry Potter is popular with that crowd, not so much that Twilight is.

I think Alice only got it because of Johnny frickin' Depp. Seriously.

Which was a very lazy character he played. That movie could have been the next Wizard of Oz....

Ya, Twilight is soo... twilight...I just dont get it. Teenage girls and their man-abused submissive author idol Stephanie Meyer have made me lose hope in the future. When Twilight fans gorw up they will be the ones in charge....

The movies with the most nominations were newer films. . .based on franchises that appeal to teens. . .plus, there is almost no way to win an online popularity contest against Twi-hards. . . seriously, those girls are organized, and they are the MTV demographic. . . Star Trek fans. . . not so much. . . I'm betting that Twilight will basically sweep the categories it is nominated in. . .

I can't believe there are more Twihards than Trekkies on the Internet! What happened to the days when (allegedly) 20 per cent of the Net was Trek fansites (and most of the rest, porn sites)? Are you saying teenaged Twihards are more organised a fandom than the rabid Trekkies?

Yes. That is what I am saying. . . there may be a lot of Trek fan sites, but they tend to be very stratified. . . TOS fans, TNG fans, DS9 fans, VOY fans. . . ENT fans. . . movie fans. . . vs. Team X fans and Team Y fans (but they all still love Twilight so it is much easier to organize them). . .most Star Trek fans are simply not in MTV's target demographic, so quite frankly, we are less likely to vote in polls like that. .. notice that Chris Pine is representing Star Trek in the two categories the movie is nominated. . . he's the "pretty boy" type this demographic goes for. . .

Yeah, Star Trek fans don't care to vote in online voting things.
