Star Trek is not a reboot, nor a revamp, but instead...

I think star Trek 11 will be a re-imagining of the whole Original show. It will endd ur being a complete remake. Some of the Original series episodes as great as they are are shwoing their greay as they are too simplistic. the Good guys are near flawless. the guest star is either a bad guy, flawed, nuts or will die and has issues.
Kirk never makes a mistake, Spock is almost cartonnlike in his way of being Logical and McCoy is alwasy Mr. Emotional and always reacting to Spock's ways.
Even after the remastering is done in 6 years it will all play itself out.

I guess the Catholic Church analogy it apt - they're both overblown and irrelevant.

You seem a bit overblown yourself.

Neither of these remarks was called for in the slightest.

This forum is not the place to slam the Catholic Church...nor is it the place to slam other posters.

Please knock it off.

Thanks.

Should we really be called 'trekkies' though?

It's a lot shorter than "obsessive-compulsive nitpickers and worrywarts," don't you think? ;)

Another example of insulting other people who feel differently than you do? Going as far as to imply mental disorder?

Seems to me that to be so abusive towards others is what actually suggests an imbalance.

Please don't do it to your fellow fans again.

If you feel one way, fine. If we feel differently, fine.

ACCEPT IT AND MOVE ON.

Stop attacking people. It's not right.

I honestly think someone might need to develop more of a sense of humor and stop taking a form of entertainment (aka Star Trek T.V. episodes and film so seriously). Also, I as a Star Trek fan from 1669 to today, don't feel insulted by ]North Pole-aris comments as there are more then two groups of fans (an intimated by your 'you' and 'we' bit).

Nah. Such comments are old hat from that source, and maybe you just haven't noticed. It was a legit response to someone who's known for such comments.

As for "you" and "we", who said only two groups exist?

The point is, one group feels the existing continuity shouldn't be forgotten or over-written, and someone else feels that anyone expressing such feelings is going overboard and is borderline mentally ill.

THESE are the two points of view or "sides" involved in this discussion. It doesn't mean there aren't others, and it wasn't said there aren't.

Funny you'd think otherwise. It was all said very clearly.

Well, I would certainly never do something like use an avatar representing some TV producer or executive with simulated bullet wounds or injuries. That strikes me as fundamentally unbalanced and indefensible, wouldn't you agree?

gastrof, the way I read this is that he was JOKINGLY referring to ALL Trek fans (including himself, by the way) - not to any particular group within fandom that he doesn't agree with.

And let's face it - many Trek fans ARE rather obsessive about it. And there ARE alot of nitpickers out there.

I mean, why would anyone bother to learn Klingon - a language that doesn't even *exist* - if they weren't just a wee bit 'obsessed'? And why would some fans spend hours and hours arguing ENDLESSLY about whether imaginary Archer or imaginary Trip would make a better mate for imaginary T'Pol if there wasn't just a smidgen of obsession involved there??

And why would whole BOOKS be written and published, nitpicking each and every episode of Trek...if there wasn't a ready audience eager for such books?

In short...I don't think he was being abusive. He was just making light of the situation...which at times *can* be either very sad...or very entertaining, depending upon how you look at it. ;)

Fact it, the bridge computers are getting a flatscreen, updated look and the jewely controls and switches will look a little snazzier...but this won't be a reboot. Too much rides on keeping at least most continuity intact and the audience familiar with the settings.

^ Of Course ! ^

And if anything it's a RETELLING.

Same universe, different production values, ect.
