Star Trek: Indistinguishable From Magic in spring 2011

It isn't just Star Trek now, it's:

Star Trek - The Next Generation: Indistinguishable From Magic.

In other words CBS have decided that since it's not just Geordi-centric but has "a TNG-heavy cast" it should go out as a TNG book with the appropriate logo.

Oddly enough, although I have an approved cover, there's an error on it (to wit, the spine still has the more general movie-era font like on Badlands) so I'm not posting it till it gets corrected...

Oh, and March 29th is the street date...
So does that mean that there are more TNG characters than just Geordi? Or did they just decide that since Geordi is in it that that was a good enough reason to label it TNG?
And I can't wait to see the cover!

^As David said in the very first post in this thread:
On points it'd be mostly TNG, but as it headlines Geordi, Scotty, Nog and Guinan, with some other familiar faces and guest stars, it's going under a more general "Star Trek" header.

So it's always been TNG-focused with a mix of other elements, and has always included more TNG characters than just Geordi, but the folks in charge of branding and marketing the book have changed their minds about how to label it.

This.

Even within the four named characters there, that's still 50% TNG, 25% TOS and 25% DS9, so still a majority TNG element... So I'm not surprised they've gone with making it a TNG release.

I don't mind either way, whether it's listed as TNG or a more general crossover - it's the same book, same cover, same blurb, just a different logo and font.

Reminds me of what happened with The Buried Age. It was originally intended to be branded as The Lost Era, but it ended up getting the TNG brand (and the new TNG logo style that debuted that year) with the TLE reference reduced to a subtitle. Although I always figured that was partly because The Lost Era: The Buried Age would've sounded redundant, and that may indeed have been a factor.

My guess is that the TNG branding will help sales (due to the relative dearth of TNG books combined with the brand's high popularity).

It's not quite the blurb that appears on the book's back cover, but here you go:
In this all-new original novel, the crew of the U.S.S. Challenger, Geordi LaForge, and Scotty find that the past is always very much of the present, and that, as the truism goes, anything sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic.

The most talented Starfleet engineers of two generations unite to solve a 200-yearold technological mystery that turns out to be only the beginning of a wider quest. With the support of Guinan and Nog, as well as the crew of the U.S.S. Challenger, Geordi LaForge and Montgomery Scott soon find themselves drawn into a larger, deadlier, and far more personal adventure. Helped by old friends and hindered by old enemies, their investigation will come to threaten everything they hold dear."

They need to update the bio, though- I don't write for NEO any more.

I'd kind of hoped the cover would appear before the blurb, and leave you all wondering why it appeared to have the Ent-D on it...

Cool! :techman:

USS Challenger - as in Captain Geordi? Or am I getting turned around and getting my ships and timeframes confused here?

Maybe Geordie transfers to Challenger at the end of this book, as FO, on his way to becoming Captain.

I don't know if you're running Windows, but if so, if you just push the "Print Screen" button it takes a screenshot of whatever's on your display and copies it to the clipboard. You can then open Paint, paste it, cut the cover out, and save it.
