I always really liked Kruge, Lloyd did a great job playing a Klingon. I put him right up there with Campbell, Colicos and Ansara in the Klingon Hall-of-Fame.

Agreed. In hindsight I'm glad they didn't use any of the TOS Klingons, as Blood Oath just wouldn't have been the same.

Was thinking that, too.

That said, I'd have appreciated a scene or two that elaborated on why Kruge wanted the Genesis device so much.

If they were able to do edits, I would like a explanation as to why, when the Klingons were about to board the Enterprise, why Kirk ordered his crew beamed down to the Genesis planet, which was about to explode, as David and Saavik had told him, instead of beaming over to the Klingon ship at the same time the Klingons were beaming over ... that way he could have taken over the Klingon ship, then rescued Spock and Saavik. Beaming down to a planet about to explode while blowing up your ship, stranding you there if the enemy decides not to capture you and take you aboard their ship, seems a bit crazy...

Kirk and co. probably wanted to check for themselves. Also, Kruge might have picked up that they were beaming aboard and done something about it.

That said, maybe Kirk just wanted to see his son one last time, before it was all over.

It couldn't be made clearer. He wants it because it's a scary superweapon, and he'll become supremely powerful. He doesn't like peace, and wants to bring the Federation to its knees with Genesis turning every Federation planet into a fireball.

Have been looking on Fanedit.org and only found one Search for Spock edit so far.

Then again, navigating that (forum-based) site isn't the easiest.

Because she knew about Genesis, and could have leaked it to someone.

He was obviously acting on his own, and if word had got back to the Klingon High Command, they'd have tried to stop him.

I mostly think the film mostly works as it is, except for a major story flaw: Kirk has no real need to go to Genesis when he does, since he doesn't know at that point that Spock's tube landed safely on the planet.


Apparently, in an earlier script, Grissom was supposed to find Spock's tube first, then report this to Starfleet and have Kirk hear about this.


I don't know, this is kind of the "unnecessary Trek" anyway. The plot's a giant reset button to tie up loose ends of TWOK and undo Spock's death. It turned out okay for what it was.

This. The whole movie opened with Grissom discovering Spock's tube on the Genesis planet. That scene was pushed to later in the film during post-production. That's why there's somewhat of a similar fanfare to the first scene with Grissom and the establishing chiron telling us the stardate and location.
