Star Trek III - Stars

Towards the beginning of Star Trek III as Kirk is doing his voiceover and the camera is panning the warp stars, and the camera pulls back past Kirk thru the Bridge porthole he is looking thru, the stars change from being an exterior effect to something else. What all is happening there? It has always made me wonder how the star effect changes or what effect was used. They somehow seem very dimensional for just the brief few seconds they are visible thru the porthole for a movie of that age.

Did any of that make sense? It's like 2am hah.

When we see the stars on the viewscreen, it was some type of in-camera effect. I don't know how they did it, but you're right, it looks very 3-dimensional. They probably had some lights hanging behind the viewscreen at various depths. Doing it inscreen allowed them to pan the camera back from the screen to Shatner.

Simple. It's a window.

In reality, they had some kind of reflecterized do dads hanging out the window on the set, instead of using a special effect to put stars there. As I understand, it was just done for that one shot. Normally, it's done with fx.

Another thing I have noticed when I have watched TSFS is the scene where the merchant ship with the romulan spy gives the genisis info while they are waiting the captain mentions that they are not here, the romulan female spy then speaks Klingon to a view screen. When kruge answers back the stars on the viewscreen move around.? Anyone else noticed this ?

That's supposed to be the effect of the cloaking device.

I'm sure she was romulan her clothes looking different and she's got pointed ears !!! I have also heard that the Klingons were originally going to be romulans hence the bird of prey.?

No, she's a Klingon and only has pointed ears in the comic adaptation. She's not a Klingon warrior, she's a spy, hence she doesn't wear warriors' armour. Valkris has a Klingon crest on her forehead, too.

Yes, true. But Valkris is Klingon.

Exactly. IIRC they use the same effect on the cloaked BoP as Enterprise nears Genesis.

And of course Valkris is Klingon. Not only based on what everyone else has mentioned, but the script spacifically states it. That plus the fact that she addresses Kruge as 'my lord'. A Romulan wouldn't be caught dead calling a Klingon 'my lord'.
