Should there be consideration for an expanded ST:II and ST:III score?

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread -- but for those interested, this past year Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan received the updated, expanded soundtrack album treatment from Film Score Monthly.

And hopefully, we'll get another Star Trek expanded album this year. I know Lukas over at FSM said he'd try to get Star Trek III released but it's owned by a different record company (EMI instead of Atlantic) which complicates matters.

And La-La Land Records has a deal with Sony Special Products. Sony owns the album rights to Star Trek: TMP and Star Trek V (via Columbia and Epic, respectively) so my fingers are crossed for one of those. The only downside is that both soundtracks are still in print and can be purchased on iTunes and from Amazon.com.

And there are rumors of some kind of Star Trek: TNG boxset coming from FSM some time this year. But they are only rumors.

P.S. In addition to The Goonies and BTTF, Jerry Goldsmith's score to Innerspace was released a few months ago but quickly went out of print.

P.P.S. Lukas over at FSM did confirm that new re-issues of Poltergeist and Outland (both by Goldsmith) are coming later this year!

I own and quite enjoy the album; the guys at FSM did a fantastic job.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Also, there was an updated Back To The Future album done as well, which was released back in October (?)

Back To The Future

Thank you!! The TWOK soundtrack didn't seem to be available anymore at Amazon the last time I checked. And I didn't even know about the new BTTF soundtrack release!

Horner's scores for II & III are among my favorite film scores of all time! I love it when a soundtrack is memorable and enjoyable because of its own melody, as opposed to just background ambience for a scene. Unfortunately most of what he's done afterwards has fallen short. I kept waiting for some rousing theme from Avatar but the score was really quite average and forgettable.

Is this ST II soundtrack available through general retail? Even amazon redirects you to offsite sellers.

Ahhh ... STII DID get an expanded treatment; the complete & remastered score was released about a year ago legally by Film Score Monthly.

Screen Archives, as a film score lover and CD buyer, is HANDS DOWN, the greatest score CD selling site there is. Their customer service is fantastic, and very often people report receiving their CDs days after placing hte order (appearently they use warp speed). Using SAE to buy CDs is the equilivant, to me, of using Google to search for information or IMDB.com to search for movie info.
The Major labels releases these deluxe CDs, right now, are (these are LEGAL labels, not bootleg stuff):

Film Score Monthly (filmscoremonthly.com)
La La Land Records (lalalandrecords.com)
Intrada Records (intrada.com)
Percepto Records (percepto.com -- very limited amount of releases)
Perseverance Records (perseverancerecords.com)
BuySoundtrax Records (who also carry Prometheus Records; buysoundtrax.com -- bad customer service and iffy delivery service -- better off ordering their CDs from someone like Screen Archives)

The owner of the label, as I recall, said in a thread at his messege board that he's trying for III, but there are some rights problems. He said he's trying, but just don't ask him about it.

There are also complete scores to some of the other films, in the works. And a 14CD set of Ron Jones' TNG work (also, coincidently, by FSM, with an estimated end of the year, early next year possible release date).

They've since removed the comment after it started spreading. But it read:

"expanded of course - it's in the works - sometme soon"
