Star Trek Hunter Episode 16: Slavers

Review 16.6 - Now that's how you make a stirring fleet-wide announcement...
Thanks for the kind words!

Review 16.7 - Political machinations with a side of Section 31 skullduggery... ...the stakes keeping being raised...
You are not wrong...

Review 16.8 - “We’re method actors.” :guffaw:
Glad you got a kick out of that... I like to have my characters wink at the reader on occasion.

Review 16.9 - Castaways...
Lots of homeless romulans with their homeworld destroyed...

Thanks!! rbs

Review 16.11/16.12 - Quite the setup here for a Ferengi-assisted (however unwillingly) rescue from Orion captivity. Excellent plan with a little good fortune thrown in, and the externally induced Orion IBS was a nice touch.

Review 16.10 - ...the welcome reappearance of the capable Johnny Canada. Loved the Adam-12 callbacks...
Johnny Canada started as a walk-on foil for Shran, but he just kept making himself useful for plot exposition and earned his place as a series regular. Glad you enjoyed the antique monochromatic television easter egg!

Nothing like a little poo humor... Thanks again for the reviews!! rbs

Review 16.14 - I love the ingenious nuke-assisted probe protection strategy as well as the fact that Hunter rescued holdouts from several planetoids in the area. The Badlands are a harsh mistress, and it takes a coordinated effort to search them without incurring serious losses in personnel and materiel.

Review 16.15 - The rescue on Vengeons-Roux was completed flawlessly, though I'd expect no less from this crew. Pivin's question was damnably vexing, as I'm guessing it will be years or decades before even Kenny knows the real answer.

Review 16.17 - So, the Romulan/Vulcan reunification has begun, only not in a way that was envisioned. One wonders how the Praetorian Guard will keep the Vulcan populace in line, as resistance to their authority might seem quite logical.

Review 16.18 - Lots of brain power in one compartment here, and finally an epiphany is reached! Glad Starfleet Academy is accepting non-traditional applicants like Alstars, he's certainly earning his keep.

Thanks for the kind words!! It made sense to me that in searching for one set of refugees, they would find many others.

...Pivin's question was damnably vexing, as I'm guessing it will be years or decades before even Kenny knows the real answer.

Perhaps as much admonishment as question...

Review 16.16 - I... uh... what just happened?!

Just romulans being romulans... Bigger questions about this coming up...

One wonders how the Praetorian Guard will keep the Vulcan populace in line..,

Lots of brain power in one compartment here, and finally an epiphany is reached!

About 1/3 of the officers on the Hunter came in by way of Officer Candidate School instead of the academy (including Tauk, Alstars and Dolphin.) Unlike the U.S. Navy, Star Fleet does not have an age limit. My dad attempted to join the Navy officer corps via OCS and dropped out because it was too grueling. He ended up enlisting via basic training (which was much easier.)

Review 16.19 - And now the horrible revelation of S31 complicity in this tragedy. Perhaps this is all for the greater good, but as with many of the agency's plans, how many lives must be sacrificed to see it come to fruition?

Julian hates the term "greater good," but that's his life these days. It's all about the numbers.

Section 31 operates on the vulcan ethos of "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" - a simple utilitarian ethic that sounds appealing, but reliably turns good people into monsters...

I have only ever sensed this in people whose consciences are clean. Those people come in two kinds, Kenneth Dolphin…”
...
“And what would those two types be?” he asked.
...
“Heroes and monsters, Kenneth Dolphin, heroes and monsters. Which are you?”
Awesome to equate the quilt-free conscience to both heroes and monsters. They are each their opposites in the eyes of their opposites.

Dolphin, more than anyone, should understand that he is both.
