Star Trek - Horizon (Enterprise Feature-Length Fan Film)

What does it look like without all the glows and soft focus? I know that hides a lot of compositing issues, but everything here looks a bit like a dream sequence.

It's the JJ look, which seems to be the new normal with FX people. It's technically amazing as far as the level of detail and glitz but whether it's tasteful or not is subjective. I could do without so much fake lens-flare, dirt on the lens, and the camera always shaking and twirling around (whether it be CG or live-action).

How is the glows and soft focus the JJ look? The cinematography of the Abrams movies is spades clearler, dynamic and more interesting than any fan production. While I applaud the effort in this fan film, the soft focus gives the film a blurry and muddled look.

Agreed. Mos is completely wrong on that aspect. If anything the glowing, soft look is closer in style to Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome, and is a result of the same vfx trick so to speak. From seeing the video's on Tommy's site, it seems that the majority of the film is filmed against green screen, like Blood and Chrome was, and the glows are an attempt to blend the live action and the (very well done) CG backgrounds into a cohesive whole. This isn't an attempt to undermine any of the work the Tommy has done, it is very good stuff, especially for one person doing the whole movie. I'm a film compositor by trade, and for one person to be doing not just the comping, but the modeling, texturing, lighting, tracking, and final integration and color grading is just a massive amount of work.

A new trailer for this webfilm has just been released...

I can't believe I'm just finding this fan film now. It looks like the acting is going to be strong and will support the great CG work. The uniforms look fantastic! I'm looking forward to this and I'll keep it in on my radar.

Pretty nice. New to me as well. Wow that's a lot of light in some of those scenes, though.

It looks and sounds fantastic. I've been avoiding fan productions so far but the quality speaks for itself. No point in letting a bias stand in the way of good entertainment.

not jsut the uniforms - the Romulans look authentic and the Vulcan robes are BEAUTIFUL!!

Awesome! I just found this as well. And, I am SO excited to see the final product! This ENT fan-girl anticipates this more than Renegades.

I'll watch it again with sunglasses : ) I supported this project on Kickstarter. I love the "pull back" on the ship at the 1:37 mark.

I've tried casting a Captain who can convince me he's a leader of men. I've tried a dozen guys and no one has pulled it off. Acting is hard, I guess. Still looking...

I can get a lot of info at other forums and websites, but since this was off the main radar here (by default I guess this forum only shows only a month's worth of threads), I thought I'd bump it to generate some discussion on this site. Hopefully tommygdawg will post an update. From what I've seen of the trailers I'm really looking forward to this.

I was just checking the Horizon Facebook page and noticed that Tommy posted less than an hour ago now about an interview he did for "Trekyards". Sorry, I don't know how to paste links, but the interview is on YouTube (I linked up to it through the Facebook page).

Last I checked, I believe the movie is due out in Feb, so I imagine we will be hearing from tommygdawg within the next several weeks.
