Star Trek - Horizon (Enterprise Feature-Length Fan Film)

Crud, I just found out about this and missed the kickstarter deadline. Anyway to donate via Paypal or something similar?

BTW, are you capturing Cinema DNG or ProRes 12bit 4:4:4?

This is great looking stuff. Raises the Trek fan film nation up a few notches.

Jesus, this kid is good!!!

Not sure how much crew Tommy has since his behind-the-scenes videos show only him and his brother, but this trailer is phenomenal for a very low-budget effort. Give him a decent budget, Hollywood, he may be the new Guillermo Del Toro.

WOW! I can't wait for this, it looks epic. In the trailer, was that "Future Guy" from Enterprise talking to the Romulans?

I was thinking that!

This seems to be set during the Romulan War which we haven't really had officially on screen outside of the fan series.

I admit I have only just started to appreciate the series Enterprise after years of more-or-less ignoring it; I really enjoy the 'throw-forward' arcs from season 4 but I may never be a proper fan compared to the other 4 shows; I have liked Horizon's Facebook page though due to the high quality work but have only looked at it casually - but this trailer has really piqued my interest!!

It definitely leaves me pining for more - while Axanar and Renegades were made by people already known from the Trek community Tommy Kraft has come from seemingly nowhere and impressed us all.

We may moan about Paramount giving us just one movie every 3/4 years but with Renegades, Axanar, Horizon, Continues, Intepid, Phase II etc all in various stages of work this is an extremely exciting time for indie Trek!

This is really well done. The quality relative to the budget is phenomenal. I can't wait to see the final product.

Wow, thank you all for the kind responses! So nice of you all, and thank you Bixby for sharing the link to the trailer!

To answer some questions, it's mainly me doing the work. I've had a few really great people help me out by supplying 3D models (the drydock, Vulcan ships, Romulan ships and stations), but the rest is all me. I made all the costumes, doing the vfx (everything from rotoscoping to all the 3D stuff and compositing), directing, writing, editing, shooting, etc. It's a long haul and a lot of work, but so worth it :) For the trailer, Matt Raetzel did the music and sound design, and will be doing the sound design for the final film.

Again, all your kind words are so appreciated and encouraging!

And to answer the future guy question...that does look like him, doesn't it? ;)

This really sets the bar for all other fan productions out there. I am sometimes put off watching fan made episodes and movies but this trailer is really epic, the effects, the music, nice acting too. Watched the trailer 3 times already. It's a nice mix of Enterprise with Trek 09 momentum.

I'm guessing the story is going to revolve around the Discovery before she is destroyed in 2155, as described in Beneath the Raptor's Wing?

The VFX looks fantastic.

What does it look like without all the glows and soft focus? I know that hides a lot of compositing issues, but everything here looks a bit like a dream sequence.

Just saw the 5 min+ preview.

The idea of having the plot revolve around the Iconians is something I just love. I personally like the idea that the Iconians were wrongly accused and ganged up upon by other races, and overpowered, rather than Cryptic's idea that they are a villainous, conniving group, who deserved to be wiped out.

Through-out the preview, it reminded me precisely of the Ancients in Stargate, and how they had lost just about everything in the Pegasus Galaxy.
And that is a very good thing.

I just wish that they were given a more alien, exotic appearance, and perhaps done as CG, rather than another human-like race.

There is a long English (as in England, not the language) Star Trek Fan Film series, Star Trek: Unity, which started out as kids recording make-believe almost 10 years ago but which now includes costumes, green screens, etc., which centers around the Iconians as major players after the events of the last TNG movie. http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/90.html . Not for those of you who get snitty when something isn't Hollywood quality. I enjoy it a lot. Start with the more recent films I have at the top of the listing. It includes one of the best DS9 fan films (with the same characters as the rest of the series going to DS9 after the end of that series) I've seen... again, though, if you are going to get upset if it doesn't live up to Hollywood, (the sound in the location scenes is particularly problematic) ...it doesn't live up to Hollywood quality standards.

But the Captain of the series, Captain Lewis, is supposed to be a surviving Iconian, and Iconians in this series are "Time Lords" or "Doctors." It's not exactly a crossover series.

This is coming out soon, right? Haven't heard any updates in a while so I just thought I'd ask.

This, Axanar, and Renegades are the three fan films I'm dying to see!

It's the JJ look, which seems to be the new normal with FX people. It's technically amazing as far as the level of detail and glitz but whether it's tasteful or not is subjective. I could do without so much fake lens-flare, dirt on the lens, and the camera always shaking and twirling around (whether it be CG or live-action).
