Star Trek/Green Lantern: the Spectrum War

iDW announced today at Wondercon '15 that they would be co-publishing a Star Trek/Green Lantern crossover comic with DC Comics.

From Bleedingcool.com:

"Launching in July, Star Trek/GReen Lantern: The Spectrum War will be written by Mike Johnson and drawn by Angel Hernández, featuring the entirety of the Green Lanterns Corps allied with the 23rd century Federation, Starfleet and Enterprise who some of the Star Trek bad guys get Green Lantern rings…."

From the cover images at Bleedingcool, it looks like this crossover will feature the NuTrek cast, along with the NuTrek Klingons.

Definitely looks interesting.

Am I the only person that thinks that crossovers like this undermine both universes? Ugh. Count me out.

^Undermine? No, since they're all just make-believe. And interfranchise crossovers like this tend to be "imaginary stories" anyway, not binding on the continuity. Heck, people have been crossing over different fictional franchises since Hercules became a member of the Argonauts.

Still, they do seem to be coming rather fast and heavy lately, don't they? It makes them less of an event and more a routine.

Doesn't bother me. They're just for fun and don't have any long-term effects, so where's the harm?

Remember that bit in "Stand By Me" where the kids were debating who was stronger, Superman or Mighty Mouse?

Same sorta thing. People are always going to want to play mix-and-match with their favorite characters and stories. Done right, it can be a lot of fun.

(Says the guy who once wrote a Charlie Brown/Frankenstein crossover back in grade school!)

And I thought the Planet of the Apes crossover was a dumb idea...

I'm glad I never took the nu-Trek comics seriously.

Wasn't Chris Pine recently rumoured to be the next Green Lantern? I like crazy crossovers, this could be interesting.

The best possible moment in any Star Trek/superhero comic book crossover has already been covered:

I never really got the whole crossover stuff. I mean, I suppose there's a fun 'what if' element to it all, but X-Men/Star Trek, Planet Of The Apes/Star Trek/ Dr. Who/Star Trek.....

Not my cup of tea really.

For the record, I would jump at the chance to write a Star Trek/Xena crossover . . . .

Speaking of crossovers, Meyer also wrote a sequel, The Canary Trainer, in which Holmes investigates the strange case of the The Phantom of the Opera . . ..

I was... disappointed by The Canary Trainer. I expected something more from it, I guess.

A few years later I read Sam Siciliano's The Angel of the Opera, which was another Holmes vs. the Opera Ghost story. And I liked that one a lot, even though it had a non-Watson narrator.

I liked the Siciliano book. There was also a comic-book miniseries which pitted Holmes against the Opera Ghost, so I've read at least three takes on Holmes/Phantom of the Opera at this point.

I thought The Canary Trainer was better than Meyer's previous Holmes novel, The West End Horror, but neither holds a candle to The Seven-Percent Solution . . ..

This is great news for me. While I'm not a fan of the "cocky pilot saves the world" theme of Green Lantern, and am generally not into superhero stories, I like GL because of its genuine science fiction elements - an interstellar policing force, a multispecies organization, and uniforms.

I was disappointed when the Reynolds movie failed to generate a sequel because I liked the alien environment and characters. Bringing both franchises together is the most interesting Trek crossover for me since Doctor Who. I hope we get to see the color spectrum and Kirk & co. in Corps suits. Bring it on
