the point still is what is established continuity??
TOS, the movies, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT...
what happens with the contradictions.
Since most of them are fairly small, it pretty much depends on the nerd - some of us bitch, some of us try to explain them away, some of us ignore them, some of us acknowledge them and move on, etc.
at some point a decision has to be made which are the most important aspects to explore and what has to be put aside.
And putting everything but names aside is pretty much a bad idea, unless you want to do a reboot (and admit it).
just because a lot of us have an open mind about this movie..
Gushing =/ "open mind" and criticism =/ "closed mind"
since ghosh well we havent seen it yet
I've seen enough to be able to know what I think of it. Watching the movie won't change the fact everything I've seen so far doesn't gel with the Star Trek I know and love. Seems to me there are plenty of people here who have made up their minds in the other direction to, so I can't say I care much for the old "we haven't seen it yet" line since it doesn't really count for anything at this point.
dosnt mean we dont respect what has come before.
Maybe not you specifically, but there are plenty of posters who seem to have loads of fun bashing basically everything that came before this movie.
i for one can see trying to adhere to much of what has gone before could drive someone nuts trying to reconcile some of the stuff.
It's really not that hard, especially since now we have Memory Alpha. Before that we had the Encyclopedias. Hiring a continuity guy helps too.
how to deal with return to tomorrow and errand of mercy.
how to deal with where no man and is there in truth no beauty?
What does that have to do with making a TOS movie that isn't actually a TOS movie?
