Star Trek: Foundations

Okay, I'm a bit confused. I'm having a hard time pulling these things up. Is it a video, is it a script or is it a story (like fanfic). I'm a dedicated Enterprise fan (my favorite series) and Phlox is my favorite character out of all trek characters. So I guess I'm also trying to figure out if the characters are the same as the series or if you brought in new characters. And yeah, I love character driven stories so this is perfect for me. I liked the first 2 seasons best, was marginally enthusiastic about the 3rd season (battles do nothing for me) and liked a few of the 4th season arcs). So if these stories deal with the original ENT crew (Phlox included), then I'm interested!!!

Nevermind :) I was able to go to the library which has DSL or something like it and was able to pull them up quite quickly. I did enjoy seeing the stories (YIPPEE new ENT stories!!!!!) Only unusual thing to me is why you made Dr. Lucas so antagonistic and sour. Phlox and he seemed to have an ongoing and friendly relationship and the ONLY sour moment in Lucas' presentation was when he was working at Cold Station 12 but that wasn't toward Phlox. Oh well, it's your work of 'art' and you can write him as you see him.

It's a reboot and I thought I'd add a different dynamic there. There's plenty of backstory there and it'll come out as things progress into Season 1.5 and Season 2.0. ;)

“Bicinium” Foundations episode #12. Story by Rigil Kent and CJ Sitter. Screenplay by Rigil Kent. Script first released on 14 September 2007.
No date given. Enterprise and Ti’Mur face destruction as they struggle against an anomaly that doesn’t obey the laws of physics.

“In Memoriam” Foundations episode #13. Story by Rigil Kent and CJ Sitter. Screenplay by CJ Sitter. Script first released on 28 September 2007.
25 February 2153. The 25th of February holds special significance for Jonathan Archer. Something happened that forged him into the man his is, but haunts his soul.

I've just caught this, and I'm intrigued by the series...I just hope in your version of Enterprise, the NX-01 isn't as fast and powerful as the 1701-D, and there's no instantaneous communication with Earth...tens of light years away! I like what I've seen so far, so keep up the good work!

Captain X, I just started reading the first script for "One Small Step," but I noticed something wrong about your copyright notice.

Star Trek and related names are no longer registered trademarks of Paramount Pictures. CBS Studios owns Star Trek now, I'm afraid.

Also, a the city in which the government of a polity is located is called a capital city. A capitol is a building that houses a government.

Captain X, I've just "ST: Foundations"'s "One Small Step," and I really like it!

There are a few technical issues, though. As I noted above, "Star Trek" is owned by CBS Studios now, not Paramount, so you might want to change your copyright notice to reflect that. Also, you should be aware that under US law, fan fiction writers have no copyright claim to their works unless they have a license agreement to that effect with the trademark owners. So you should probably remove any claim to copyright ownership of your fics.

It's not spelled "Concilate." The term is "Consulate." A consulate is basically a satellite embassy -- an area of foreign soil located in a major population center away from the Embassy, which is usually in the host state's capital. So the Vulcan Consulate wouldn't file a protest with the United Earth Senate; rather, if you're going to use building lingo, you'd say that the Vulcan Embassy filed a protest. Of course, more formally, it would be the Vulcan Ambassador.

I love that it's being called UESPA and not Starfleet. :)

If you were to revise "One Small Step," it might be a good idea to note that the UE Senate has decided to postpone the Enterprise's mission very suddenly. Launching a ship is a major thing that would have been planned long in advance; the idea of the Senate postponing it at the last minute, instead of postponing it months beforehand, is pretty extraordinary. (Maybe a Senator had a sudden change of heart because of the Vulcans?)

"United Earth Military." That's a fairly unrealistic name; military forces don't use the term "military" in their name, because it's a descriptive phrase for specific services. It's the same reason that the New York Police Department calls itself the NYPD instead of "New York Law Enforcement Agency." (There being multiple law enforcement agencies besides the PD.) I'd suggest finding a new name -- perhaps something specific to the type of combat it tends to engage in. "United Earth Space Force," for instance, or, if you want to be more generic, "United Earth Defense Force."

Soval as "senior Ambassador to Earth." In international relations, there's no such thing as a "senior ambassador" to another state. States exchange ambassadors, who have aides with various diplomatic titles that are below that of ambassador. A country may have its Ambassador to State A joined by another ambassador for a specific issue, but the second ambassador is not an ambassador to State A, but, usually, an ambassador-at-large or some such.

I like that you involve the UE government and politics from the very beginning!! :) You seem to establish that UE uses a presidential model of government; I was wondering if you'd considered having it be a parliamentary government? This has been estbalished in the novels, and I think it might make for a more interesting set-up, since parliamentary government often have more factions than presidential systems. Also, it's a bit less US-centric. Is the Senate the only leiglative body, or is there a lower house as well?

Just some nuggits for thought. I know you're thirteen episodes into it, though, so some of my ideas might be impractical even if you wanted to go with them. Thanks for your time!

It's more of a catch-all liability thing really, and standard for all scripted fan fic that I've seen. Mostly it's to deter other online entities from ripping us off, but there's nothing legally binding about it.

I thought it would be a nice lead in to something Kirk said about who he worked for and how Starfleet was a "combined service". But there'll be more on that later in the series (much later).

If you were to revise "One Small Step,"
Heh, it's on the "to do" list already actually, but after the rest of the first season is safely done and the new website is built I'm afraid.

"United Earth Military." That's a fairly unrealistic name; military forces don't use the term "military" in their name, because it's a descriptive phrase for specific services.
In this case it refers to all of the branches as one monolithic group. It's also a bit of a nod at the Alien franchise's "United Systems Military". I actually considered a number of alternatives, but none of them really sounded right. In any case it's too late to change it now as the series is more than half-way through its first season. I am still looking for a cool-sounding name for just the space branch, though. ;) For the time being I've just kind of not gone there.

In this case it was a matter of "write what you know". Basically what I have in mind is that while the UE is based off of the American federalist government (albeit with only one legislative body), the future UFP would use a parlamentary styled government. I need to do a bit more research on that, but fortunately that won't really come up until the last season.

Check your PMs. ;)

Aim high, indeed! I like what you've been doing. And I like Rigel Kent's stuff, too. Looking forward to both.

New Website Opens

I've been working on this like forever, but I've finally managed to finish it. :D Now all that's left to do is to finish writing the rest of Season 1. :borg:

As you look through the new website, you might notice a new feature - HTML versions of the episodes. All of the episodes that have been released are there and are available to read. :) Hope you enjoy the new website!

I don't suppose anyone would be interested in joining the staff, would they? Mainly I need help with some idea generation right now.

Are you looking for a sounding board to bounce ideas off of, or are you looking for someone who can give you new episode ideas?

Yeah, bad link-and my Endeavor and Guardian bookmarks lead to a financial disclaimer. Did you guys forget to pay your bills?
