I would think your original is fine as is. I don't think I'd make a comparison until the new version is finished though.

Basically I'd like to get a bit further away from the NX/Akira-prise design without making it look to plain and uninteresting.

Hey Captain X, it's good to see you're still working with all this stuff. The uniforms you've got going on are all really nicely done.

Regarding the Enterprise, I think it might help to isolate the things that made the NX-01 look more like the Akira. The notch on the front and the squashed deflector are two things that I think really hurt the design. You've already edited out the catamaran configuration, which I think is the right direction to go.

Too much of just a TOS conversion of the design - more form over function, IMO.

I've tried alternatives, but they never end up looking right to me.

You've already edited out the catamaran configuration, which I think is the right direction to go.

I've decided to take it a step further by eliminating the front portion of what's left of those, drawing a lineage with the Conestoga.
