With the trailer for the new series out, and with them using an adaptation of the original font, the question arises: Does anyone know who designed the original font? It's so iconic now.....

In all the massive amount of research, discussion, and theorizing concerning Trek — I do not believe so much as two words were ever spoken on that subject.

But I could be wrong.

I think the main problem in trying to nail down who created the original TOS font is that it's gone through so many renames and modifications, with different people claiming credit for it each time over the years.

I don't know who designed the original font, but I believe it's called Horizon.

Horizon aka Star Trek BT is technically the font that was designed by Bistream Inc. and released in about 1992, based very closely on the original.

Well, don't forget, the original was hand lettered by an artist on the title cards. At the most, they may have had dry transfer lettering sheets made so they could make custom cast titles each week. I probably wasn't anything like an official font with a name.
