Star Trek: First Duty #1 - "Trial of Transfer" (PUBLISHED)

I can't speak for the other authors in the shared universe because I'm not them. This story I don't think is part of United Trek, in general... unless @Gibraltar 's Reyky series is also in UT, but I don't think that it is.

I will admit that I started writing this without much of a plan at all (pantsing my way through the first seven parts), but I hadn't really thought about why I went with a commissioned officer for Lieutenant (jg) Timel. I didn't do full character sketches for everyone.

Maybe he's a mustang? :)

Thanks for reading!

I think it might be, but I'm not fully immersed in the shared universe so I can't be sure.

I would think that a paralegal that went mustang would do so by getting a law degree and therefore becoming a full lawyer. However, now that I think about it, given the personnel issues that they're having, possibly Timel is a former paralegal turned full lawyer but is still assigned as a paralegal because they're even shorter handed on those (who will get day-to-day regardless of setting) than they are of lawyers, so he's currently "acting down" perhaps also due to being better at the administrative/paperwork/investigative side than the litigator side.

Hi folks!

I haven't forgotten about this story and in fact coming off of a NaNoWriMo win, I dove back into Trial and began a severe rewrite of the story. When I take breaks from writing, I always re-read things from the beginning and after spending a lot of time working on my NaNo project for all of November (where I clocked in 91k words), I decided to utilize some lessons learned. I made some slight changes to the plot and expanded other areas, and I also cut a few scenes I wrote (but they'll show up as a short sketch piece I'd like to use as a companion later).

If you're reading at Ad Astra, I'll post when I've made all the updates, but that's where I'll be publishing them. I encourage you to head over there and bookmark it: https://www.adastrafanfic.com/works/873/chapters/1737

Thanks for all the support and encouragement! Stay tuned!

Trial of Transfer's first draft is completed! So far, clocking in at a hair under 30k words, making it a novella.

I'm hoping to have it beta read for sanity checking and such soon, and then I'll post the revised edition over at Ad Astra (rather than reposting the whole thing here and confusing the post order).

Again, appreciate the support and patience of this community. Sorry for the long wait!

Hi everyone!

I am so very pleased to announce that I've finished revising Trial, and Chapter 8 is up at Ad Astra. I highly recommend going back and rereading from the beginning as I have made some serious revising of scenes (including moving from one chapter to another).

Start Here: https://www.adastrafanfic.com/works/873/

If you could leave some kudos or comments, I would also be happy to receive/read them.

Thank you for your support!

All right @Orbing Master (and everyone else), here it is, the final chapter of Trial of Transfer!

Thanks so very much for all of your support, feedback, notes, compliments, and suggestions. If ever anyone leaves positive feedback, it'll be because of those of you who took an interest and invested yourselves into the story. I do listen and want to improve my writing, so don't hesitate to continue to do so in the future.

Head over to Ad Astra to read the denouement of Trial of Transfer!
