Star Trek Expanded Universe

Hi all, just a question that arose in my mind after seeing the film, obviously we don't know if there will be another series soon or just movies at the moment, but there are currently the books for the 'Season 8 of DS9, Voyager' post Nemesis stories for TNG. Do you like the novels and if so which is your favourite or do you prefer not to read them and why

I like most of the novels that have been released. Here are the current ones:

TNG Relaunch: Picks up after the events of Nemesis. Best description is rollercoaster with some lows and ups.
DS9 Relaunch: One of the best novel series I have ever read, but slow (which isn't a bad thing).
VOY Relaunch: Started off very boring and got really good with Full Circle. Purists may not like the recent novel.
Titan: Explores Riker's first command. Very good, but a few novels could have been better polished.
Destiny: One of the greatest novel series I have EVER read.

sorry I probably wasn't very clear, i actually love reading the novels, had loads of the TOS novels from the 80's and been reading TNG, DS9,VOY stuff as well, loved the relaunches. Agree DS9 has been really good but slow, which as you say is a good thing as it means the writers are working to making them be good, but bad cos they're slow. VOY relaunch I agree, haven't read the latest one Full Circle, got it but not read it yet. loved the TNG Season 8 mostly some decent stories, some not great ones, loved Destiny as well.

Have you read A singular Destiny the first follow up to that?

^ I apologize for my misunderstanding of what you posted.

I've read up to Full Circle (including Titan's Over a Torrent Sea - I apologize to Christopher if I spelled that incorrectly). Singular Destiny was pretty good, but I'm afraid I'd been spoiled to the ending by accident - no one's fault but my own.

there's no such thing as 'Star Trek Expanded Universe'. there are novels. there are comics. there is the MMO. they're not unified.

thats okay, i should have written it better...guess my career as a writer is over before it begins

I've just started Full Circle, probably take me a while to read it as I normally read to and from work and that isn't a long journey for me.

Captcalhoun, I suppose in a way your right, but is it not an expanded universe having all flown out of the series?

I am thinking about picking up the first Destiny book after seeing all the great reviews.

Would you guys say its important to have read the other relaunch novels or can I jump right into the first Destiny book no problem?

i would say yes, especially the TNG ones as they feature the Borg quite a bit and does have a bit of a lead in to the Destiny set. Can't remember the book before hand but you should pick it up

Before Dishonour and Greater Than the Sum lead into Destiny, as does Sword of Damocles from the Titan series, but as always, anything you need to know is recapped in Destiny.

and, no, just because all the tie-ins spring from the same source doesn't make them an 'expanded universe'. to me EU suggests it's all linked and cross pollinated. that's not true with Trek's tie-ins.
