Star Trek: Excelsior (revisited)

The main problem with an Excelsior set timeline is been "George Takei is too old" ....

Lets try a different angle, lets accept time has passed just like in the real world. Sulu has been in command of the excelsior for 15 years. In the first episode he gets his promotion. The new captain is the character in Star Trek VI played by christian slater...played by Christian Slater. He could probably be gotten without huge expenditure especially with the promise of headlining a series.

Whos the first officer, Demora Sulu of course , theres still 10 years before she becomes captain of Enterprise-C.

I have the perfect Commander Demora Sulu, Sandra Oh. Shes an excellent actress with screen presence. Shes two years younger than christian slater. Agewise she is also perfect for the role.

Shes ethnically right for the role, Korean and Japanese sharing common genetic ancestors.

In my mind, Demora Sulu wouldnt appear until the end of the first episode as first officer after her father had left the ship.

I am inclimed to agree on the Ent-B idea. Ste it after Serpents in the Ruins. Then Demora as Captain and Serpants Linoj as XO

I think George could be in it, maybe as an admiral who now operates out of a starbase. He could be there to send off the excelsior with a totally new crew and check in from time to time to bitch about what damage happened to the ship.

Admiral Sulu: "There is a hole in three decks of the saucer section, half of the port nacelles warp coils are blown out, the plasma manifold is fried, and there is a shuttle craft sized dent in the deflector dish! What in god's name have you done with MY ship!!!"

I like all ideas here.

First post especially. Christian Slater needs something like this for his fledgeling career. Just as Scott Bakula got with Enterprise.

I think he would be great as a starship captain.

Now then, who would be cast as science officer, tactical ops, chief engineer, doctor, etc? Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing Carson Beckett (can't remember the actor's name at the moment) as the doctor.

Oh, wait...I got it...how 'bout Steve Bacic as Tactical Ops?

I'm not sure he would be great as a starship captain... might be. But i'll add this: It would be INTERESTING to say the least.

I think the main problem with the Excelsior idea is that it's the same old thing with different faces and names.

I like the Enterprise-B idea, esp. with Demora as captain. That way, Sulu, Chekov, Uhura, and Harriman could be used as guest stars. And having an Asian female as captain keeps pushing Trek's tradition of diverse casting.

Yep.

I wouldn't mind Cho continuing at Sulu, assuming he's any good, which remains to be seen. But the whole concept just strikes me as "why bother?" So many more interesting things could be done instead.
