Star Trek Enterprise vs JJ's Enterprise

I've got a question to ask you guys and gals...I was reading a thread elsewhere and someone had mention this..."Actually, Starfleet and the Federation merged during Star Trek Enteprise,[sic] which took place 2151 and JJ's Enterprise was launched in 2258. Over a hundred years..." Forgive my ignorance, but is this a true statement?

Nero's arrivel in the timeline was March 2233, everything prior to that stayed the same, which means the Federation was still founded in May 2161 (TNG/VGR), and Starfleet sometime prior to 2138 (Enterprise).

So no, they are two very different things. Starfleet is an organisation, mainly managing a fleet and the logistical needs of Earth, it's colonies, and allies. Akin to the navy.

The Federation, is a union/coalition of planetary governments. Akin to the European Union etc

Starfleet and the Federation have always been two separate entities, in the old or new timeline.

No, its from a silly goof where Pike says "Federation" instead of "Starfleet" in the bar scene. Not the first time Trek has switched those two.

Yes and no.

The Starfleet depicted in Enterprise was an Earth Starfleet, sort of analogous to a planetary Coast Guard at the beginning of the series. The Federation and the Federation Starfleet familiar from all of the other Trek series (comprising humans, Vulcans, Andorians, and other species) was only shown being established at the conclusion of Enterprise's run.

The United Earth Space Probe Agency (UESPA)—formerly figuring only in a handful of early-1st Season TOS episodes*, before the concept of the Federation had been fully developed—was also worked into the stories for some episodes of Enterprise.
