Captain Lorca stood outside of Commander Burnham's quarters all excited. Before giving her a new job as first officer he had looked over her resume and had been impressed by what he had read. She seemed like someone who was going to be a good soldier which would be needed in the coming conflicts with the Klingons. She more than anyone he thought would really enjoy what he wanted to show her.
Burham walked out, of her quarters and flinched when startled, not expecting him to be outside her quarters. "Sorry about that Commander." He replied, "I didn't mean to surprise you. I just want to show you something." He smiled. "Its okay Sir" Burham said, "Was just walking, Not likely to go from walking to dead just because of a unexpected surprise." "Good" he said "I hope you will really like what I show you!"
15 minutes later the pair made it to the outside corridor to the Cargo Bay Storage room or simply called the CBS room for shorthand. Lorca said "Commander this room is usually off-limits to anyone but me but I want to show you something that I only I know about." Burnham, stoic from years of being on Vulcan tried to hide her curiosity though she knew it must be showing at least a little. "Very well" Lorca said after not getting a response, Looked slighlty upwards "Computer give me and Comander Burnham CBS ALL Access for maybe 1 hour" A beeping sound happened and then the computer stated"CBS All-Access granted for 1 hour, earth standard time."
They both entered at the same time. Lorca smilling, Burnham with her mouth slightly ajar at what she saw. "2 canons sir!?" Lorca went over to to the newer canon and gently placed his left hand on it, almost content in how he felt at the moment. "Were did you get these from, if I may ask Sir?" Burnham said while taking turns looking back at each canon. The one on the left was a newer phaser based canon made 8 years ago that was going to be used during the Abrams invasion of Kelvin Prime but never got used. It was very glossy looking with all the bells and whistles you could ask for. The other canon was a very outdated looking piece of technology that went back to the ole Civil War days, back when racism and human flaws were a bigger issue in the world. It had its charm as well but the idea of it ever being used again seemed very unlikely.
Lorca replied to her question "Remember Admiral Fuller? The guy who loved old school Starfleet stuff? Well he was the one who made me captain last year, before he had to take a different posting because of a conflict with the top brass at Starfleet Headquarters." Lorca turned his full attention to Burnham, "Well he have these to me as a gift before he left. All I can say is I was honored to be shown such respect from someone of his caliber. I think he personally prefered the older canon though I got to admit it looks kind of worn out to me. "
Lorca moved back to the newer canon and touched it once again. "Me I think I really prefer the newer one and to be honest I plan to pay more attention to it but I got to respect the guy. I was a big fan of him so I will do some fan service to old one but I know what I prefer." Burnham touched his shoulder, to show friendship . "I understand Sir. I'm glad you trusted me this secret." She smiled for the first time. "How about we know go down to that space weed room I have heard about and, partake, if you know what I mean and celebrate our new friendship." Burnham said. Lorca put out his hand to shake her hand. "Your on, Commander." and then they shook hands and left the room, laughing together.
The End.
