With the thread title I thought we were in for some of the authors writing book blurbs pleading with the public to buy their book...

“Buy this book or they repossess my kids!!”
“Buy this book..or they’ll make me write ‘My little pony’ tie-in’s...”

It's not quite the same thing, but I'm reminded of a time in my relative youth when my father showed me his collection of old humor magazines from the '50s, like early MAD and similar titles. There was one whose cover blared in a huge banner headline, "THE END OF THE WORLD IS COMING!" and in smaller print underneath, "Only ten billion years left! Buy this magazine while there's still time!" or something like that. Being a science nerd, I reflexively said, "It's only five billion." Without missing a beat, my father replied, "It's an old magazine."
