The days or period of time when Trek made a cultural impact on society are long gone.

That's only because Trek hasn't had a chance to do a story about a mad Federation President who stole his election :) They do have those in the Federation you know, elections I mean.

Thank God for that. After this whole debacle is over, I don't want to be reminded of it ever again. Not in Star Trek, not in anywhere else. I don't know about anywhere else, but at least I won't have to worry about it in Star Trek.

Great finale to the 2 parter. Really going to miss Phillipa’s acid tongue on DSC. But her departure was pulled off in grand style.

To those who thought Georgiou’s tribute scene was too much, I still think Trek writers are hyper sensitive to how Ent handled a similar situation and the fan backlash. Any death of a significant character is not going to be ignored.

Killy was great as well. Every word out of her mouth came out with a condescending smirk. So evil. :D

I loved evil Burnham. Really a great job by Sonequa. Looked like she was having a ball. In the hallway scene in part 1, when Georgiou wouldn’t kill her, Burnham mocking Phillipa and it devolving into laughter might be one of my fav Burnham scenes to date.

I haven’t seen that TOS episode in eons, but I do remember the Guardian character — some. Anyway, nice shoutout to the supernatural element that ran through TOS while keeping it at least a bit grounded.

Looking forward to Michelle Yeoh in the Section 31 show. Maybe Lorca will show up there.

Man, I wanted to like this two-parter.
Just didn't happen. Michelle Yeoh gave a fine performance, and so did the usual greats (Jones, Rapp, Oladejo and Coutts). But I just could not care at all for the story. It would have been better without the shilling funeral at the end. Georgiou really didn't have enough meaningful interaction with the crew to warrant that kind of devotion.

Killy didn't sell it for me. And man, what was going on with that performance by SMG? She's one of the best actors in the business. Was that how they directed her, or her own interpretation of the character?

I was *just* bragging to a friend of mine that this season Discovery didn't waste several episodes in the Mirror Universe. That was one of my arguments for why the writing had matured and improved. Apparently, I spoke too soon. I missed out when S1 first came out, so I missed out on the uneven writing and production chaos. I assumed using the MU to throw another bone to the longtime fans seemed like a good idea at the time.

Now I have no idea what convinced them to spend 2 hours there was a good idea.

I hate the idea that Michelle's leaving the show. She needed a great send off, but I don't think this was the smart way to do it. It was a 2 hour detour from a really well written season. I gritted my teeth when I realized I would have to put up with a second hour of the MU.

Having said that, Reno is back! Guess Tig got off of the road for a few days. Plus, Killy's eye makeup was awesome, so there's 2 great things about the episode.

I mean, really there were two things this two-parter needed to do to get to the writer's foreordained conclusion:
  1. Rehabilitate Georgiou into someone who could be the protagonist of a Trek show.
  2. Get Georgiou out of the series.
The thing is, doing this across a two-parter is entirely unnecessary. The rehabilitation could have been done slowly, over the course of the entire season. But as I said, for some reason they seemed to enjoy just having her hurl insults at everyone who tried to be nice to her instead. Getting her off the show to another time/place needed to happen, but it could have been dealt with as the "A plot" of a single episode.

Hell, if they did the leg-work of making Georgiou into a compelling, fully-rounded character before her exit from the series, the episode could have ended with her first passage through the doorway. She doesn't need anything more than that because they could deal with the fallout in the first episode of Section 31.

Georgiou's farewell scene on the planet was good enough for me. I didn't need the other stuff on the ship: "Georgiou did this and Georgiou did that...and she always made me smile. She was like mother/sister/best friend to me etc.".

Discovery is always big emotional drama...in every episode. I find that exhausting because the overall story of season 3 is quite interesting.

The character of Tyler also got shortchanged. How long was he in that prison? Once he figures out he is two people in one body, he spends a lot of time screaming and brooding and there is no real discussion about the mental toll or PTSD that kind of revelation would entail. I forget the in-universe explanation of what happened to the original Tyler, but why not build a story around him and Voq in some internal struggle for control. And if Voq is controlling Tyler by this point and knows what's going on, why does he choose the moment he does, in the mirror universe, to break out and try and kill Michael. What is his plan afterwards, in a universe where Klingons are subjugated?
Or just have Tyler be a human with PTSD and cut out the space magic reason for his problems altogether

I think they just wanted wild twists for twists sake

Which is horrible writing, if you ask me. Formulaic.

Twists are fine and great when done right, but just throwing one in for the sake of "we need a twist" is terrible.

Im in the camp that hated the Lorca twist. Of course, I also believe DISCO keeps floundering and trying to reinvent itself each season. Every season to me feels like a reboot plus they seem to have to throw in an unrelated 90 degree turn middle of the season just to shake things up.

Personally, I think Lorca was a great character, I hope they'll find some way to bring him back.

Maybe Lorca was trapped in a wormhole inversion thingy like Sisko and reappeared 900 years later without experiencing the passage of time (just like Sisko)...
