Yeah, the episode was a little less exciting (purposefully so?) after the initial crash. I still gave it a 10, but a lesser 10 than the first episode of the season.
Super Powers? His only natural Biological Special ability seems to be the hidden needle launchers behind his head.
Which is inherently cool that he has natural biological defense like that.
It's not like he can fire a Kame-Hame-Ha out of his hands and level a city/continent/planet.
I used the term first, and I was referring to the high strength and speed he exhibited in Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum.
But that seems like normal capabilities for his species, nothing particularly special.
It just means he joins a whole host of races who are physically stronger & faster than humans.
He can shoot stuff with his head! That's at least a minor superpower. And a big improvement over those worms.
Sure. I was just arguing against the assertion that Saru should have gone "RAWR PUNY HUMANS " and curbstomped the guys.

Yeah, it's not a superpower superpower, and surely they could've tossed in some high strength, high speed goons for him to face. I just used that term somewhat jokingly with the allusion that he was stronger than humans (which Zara and his men seemed to be, but not necessarily so).
Realistically, they had guns and who knows what sort of backup (Saru and Tilly were considered "stupid" for not having backup), so Saru was at a serious disadvantage, even if he did go all enhanced Kirk Fu on everyone. He wasn't lying down and giving up, he did a valiant job assessing the situation and not divulging pertinent information (learn from him, Tilly!), but it was a tough spot to be in. And when Georgiou stepped in to "save" them, she initially got shot (stunned) a bunch of times, which goes to prove my point that it was foolish to attack them. Kirk and Spock might've been okay knocking them all out, but they had 1960s hero plot armor, not 2020s gritty realism (even in a sci-fi space western on a parasitic ice planet).
Not bad.
I went in with a baseline of 5 and came away with a solid 7.
It did the things that it was expected to do. It was an episode that served it’s purpose.
Saru and Tilly together was obviously charming. Detmer's dilemma. Jett Reno’s snark was fun. “I’ve already forgotten that” is the quote of the show.
Or maybe “I don’t know, I’m on drugs.” One or the other. Either or.
Her most Imperial Majesty, Mother of the Fatherland, Overlord of Vulcan, Dominus of Qo'noS, Regina Andor, Philippa Georgiou Augustus Iaponius Centarius was in perfect form.
And Rocket Girl saving the day left the episode with a smile.

Oh, and I believe that I read that Book was part of a human colony. That's why he said that he'd never been to Earth before in the teaser for next week's episode. Either way, we're going to get to see Earth next week.

Doug jones has said the thinking behind Saru's strength and speed was to emulate prey animals like deer or horses which are obviously very fast and strong and dangerous if provoked.
I actually thought we wouldn't see her at all this week. I thought that they had been tractored by one of the Federation ships......so Burnham was a small surprise for me.
Are there federation ships in the episode?
Ships were mentioned to be around, but not shown until the end with Burnham (I assume she's in one). The Federation isn't totally extinct, but it is fractured.
Georgiou is wearing the same plot armor, isn’t she? The standoff scene seemed pretty silly to me. Realistically, they should have just killed her.
They're sadists. They even mention how they want to make it last long on her.
Those are precisely the reasons I didn't like it as much as the first one.

My biggest surpise from this ep. is that, apparently, Saru’s fierce-looking ear-darts aren’t as badass as they look, as they barely stun his "prey". That godfather-wannabe hippy-looking courier/doofus was just knocked off his feet for a minute, maybe not even knocked out or short of breath, counting his blessings: “Thought that would've hurt more...or at least hurt longer. Phew!”
Last time the darts graced our screen, they pierced angrily right into a Ba'ul hologram with such might and vengeance. I thought they would have more umph on a real-life target, or at least cling on your socks stubbornly like those weedy seeds with built-in hooks.
Maybe they have different stun settings, like phasers do.
