For me, Stamets moved up from "interesting character" to "fucking awesome" this week.

Stamets did progress character wise but it's like he's not himself. You know like when Tuvok had a brain injury. I'm not sure if the 'progress' is going to be the way he will always be.. maybe. Did I imagine he showed some kind 'conduit' thing on his arm?

He did. Culber has been working to make the interfacing process less painful, since Stamets continues to insist on using himself as the central component to the spore drive.

This is my favorite episode so far. Stamets was just awesome, especially when he seemed high at the beginning. I like that he's warming up to Michael. Cadet Tilly continues to be my favorite character in the franchise. Plus it was nice to see an actual party on Star Trek. Mudd worked a lot better in this episode, I especially loved the Lorca death montage.

If I recall correctly, Lorca and Cornwell were listening to smooth jazz while they were drinking in his quarters. Seemed appropriate.

If only we could have heard awkward "Amok Time Fight Music" play as Cornwell and Lorca went fade to black.

The party was kind of wrong era feel about it. Honestly this whole timeline ten years before TOS is being terribly messed up in its depiction. It's way too advanced at times that throwing the odd word like 'groovy' in is not cutting it.

Beaucoup was widely used in Vietnam even before the US military presence. Having been there in the late 1960s, I recall it being used by Vietnamese people trying to communicate with Americans (It WAS, after all, a foreign word) and having a comparative sense of very or a lot of. The weather might be characterized as "boo-coo hot" or an overweight person as "boo-coo fat".

Hearing 20th century style club music in the 23rd century Trek world made me cringe. I may sound like an old fogie saying that but whatever.

I took it as a retro frat-style party. Something to blow off steam for a crew that's been stressed for a while. Don't try to read more into it than what it is.

DSC is the worst of any option, just use DISCO if you can't stop giggling at STD

The more I get to know them, the more and more I like the characters of Discovery. Honestly, with the exception of DS9 and TOS, I never really *liked* the majority of Star Trek characters. Not to say I disliked them, I just didn't care about them.

With Discovery though I've found myself liking the majority of the cast. It's a refreshing experience when it comes to Trek.

It's either STD, Discovery or maybe I'll let a Disco slide here or there, but not a DSC. How do you pronounce that, DISQUE or DEE ASS SEE? It's the worst abbreviation in the history of Star Trek.
