News Star Trek: Discovery – Adhering To Canon

Anything seen of the Romulans in a prequel would not ruin the reveal (because that reveal is now past us), but could instead add retrospective flavor and lore layers to the overall Romulan ST story, including Balance of Terror.

You're just excusing breaking continuity because Romulans are something you like. Which is cool. But shows just how important continuity really is to most folks.

This person is representative of "most folks"?

Yeah, I really believe he does. Most folks won't even know when Discovery is breaking continuity (and it will). Internet blowhards will make a huge deal.

The show will live or die based on how entertaining it is, not its adherence to continuity.

I must have missed the part where people were making the case that canon will determine whether or not the show succeeds or fails.

If the writers consider it so important that they are nixing story ideas because of it, then they obviously believe it is super important to audiences. And, they're wrong.

No. In my opinion you are wrong, because you are acting as if you speak for others. You are, without any surveys or figures, declaring the majority of fans to not care about canon based on a few like-minded people on on the internet who reinforce your views.

Your comment also presupposes that canon immediately stops good stories being told. What stories aren't being told? You don't have a clue. We've had half a century of Trek and in each and every era there are many many stories that are fantastic that canon never got in the way of.

Be honest, you, and several others banging the same drum over and over, don't care about canon so you must tell the rest of us that we shouldn't and marginalise those of us that value the canon us as some sort of tiny subset, advancing a narrative that we are angry moaners and losers.

Canon is not my first concern, but this is a show about the vastness of space and I don't accept that there aren't many great and interesting stories that can be told within the canon structure. If canon doesn't matter to you then providing the stories are good it shouldn't matter either way. So why begrudge those of us who value it the added bonus of canon adherence? Will do you no harm whatsoever and give rise to more happy fans. That sounds like a good thing to me. Sadly I get the impression that that wouldn't be good enough for you though.

SPOILERS:
They're literally doing whatever they want and are calling it "prime" simply because they can.
You know it.
