Star Trek Destiny!

F. Paul Wilson does it in both the Repairman Jack series and the larger Secret History of the World epic.

Mr. Mack,

I've just finished your Destiny trilogy and wanted to tell you that it is the best science fiction prose I've ever read. I can't send PMs yet, so I've decided to post this here.

The ethics involved, the sheer scale of the work, and the storytelling itself all made for an astonishing epic. The prose was, in some parts, beautiful. I remember a reviewer comparing Destiny to Lord of the Rings; it's a well-earned comparison.

As a freelance reporter, and someone who's dabbled in fiction, I know that rewriting can be a pain, and that sometimes it feels like you'll never capture the perfect words. I read in your 'About the Author' section that you "spent most of my nights for more than fifteen months secluded" and exhibited "crazy behavior" during your undertaking. However much of that is exaggerated, I wanted to thank you for your efforts and say that, if the end result is any indication, it was worth it.

Qapla'!

^ It was about time for another one of these :)

Two and a half years after that trilogy, and they're still coming. Still my favorite, too.

Thanks, Nikolai. Most kind of you to say. I'm very glad you enjoyed the trilogy. :)

I can't help it, I have to say it. Every time I read Destiny or a thread on it my mind brings up the internet clip "Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny" which continues with "good guys, bad guys and explosions, as far as the eye can see."

Even better the song continues "And down from the heavens descended Chuck Norris."

I credit Destiny for getting me back into trek lit. It is indeed not just a good trek book, but great science fiction. It seamlessly tied together so many past stories and was an incredible origin and conclusion for the borg. I'd say Destiny and Watching the Clock should be required fan reading.

I wish a hard bound edition of the 3 books would be made. A signed hardcover edition of Destiny would be the centerpiece of my trek collection.

Destiny had a similar impact on me. I had read the 'The Good That Men Do' by Martin and Mangels. I had also been casually following Titan. When I started Destiny, to continue the Titan story, I could not believe what I had in my hands. I agree with many others that this was one of the best series of books that I have ever read, regardless of Genre.

I read this book a year ago. It’s a good book but I have mixed feelings on the creation of the Borg. Part of me is a fan but a part doesn’t like that the humans had a small part in their creation. I suppose it does lead to the Mirror universe theory which is one where the Borg didn’t exist. If the Borg didn’t try and invade First Contact, Picard wouldnt have gone back to stop them and tell Cochrane that the Vulcans were peaceful. This lead to the creation of Starfleet and the Coalition which had the Columbia get in the situation to get stranded with the Calinaer which lead to the creation of the Borg who would later go back in time and try to stop First Contact.
It’s a self fulfilling prophecy. Starfleet create the Borg and in turn, the Borg create Starfleet and therefore, the Federation.

My only issue with the series was that it was too short. I would have liked more stories telling more exploits of the war. I just didn’t get the biggest impression this was the biggest war ever for the Fed and the rest of the lesser factions. The Iconian War in Star Trek Online had this issue as well. It doesn’t need to be “Yuuzhan Vong War” big but another 4 novels would have been nice to give a bigger feel.
Voyager also got the short end of the stick here. While I love the Aventine and Ezri, I think they should have been the third ship to help out.

Do you really think this is the Borg gone for good? I’d like to think there is some small number that survived for some reason and would be back for vengeance in 200 years or so. Something for the J to worry about, as well as the Sphere Builders.
