Star Trek Destiny Trilogy

Well I just finished this trilogy (I know, I am behind..) and here are my comments:

1) When did Dax transfer to the Aventine?

2) Was the picture of Columbia in the "Ships of the line", which Mack says was his inspiration, just a random pic or from something established in fiction?

3) I liked the appendix of crew members. Question about Sam Bower. It says he has 25 years of Starfleet expereience. How old is he?

4) Plus, this may have been discussed already but Crusher having a kid at what age?

5) Thought Dax's quote "rank is like sex, it changes everything" was hilarious.

6) My favorite sub plot of the book was the part where Crusher is in the emegency room and says "i'm in the mood to work miracles tonight" and the great political drama/games when Bacco convinces the Ferengi to sucontract the Breen. Well played!

7) Great quote..."All I can say is that for me, she made eternity worth contemplating" said by Inyx

8) I am slightly dissapointed we don't see more of Leishman and LaForge and and a romantic relationship between Erika Hernandez and Inyx. BUT, I am starting on the book "Singular Destiny" today.

sometime before Destiny I. it's not be written yet - if it ever will be.

it was done by the artist, Mike Okuda (i think) added the caption in the SOTL book about it being found in the GQ, Mack made the story.

at least in his mid 40s.

50-odd. not really out of the realms of possibility when the press in the UK have been reporting on women becoming mothers at or around 60.

Yet unestablished. The most recent novel in the DS9 Relaunch was set in early 2377; Destiny is set in early 2381. All we know is that some time between 2377 and 2381, Dax transferred to the USS Aventine as Lt. Commander and second officer, and assumed command under battlefield conditions during the Battle of Acamar, the first Borg attack on the Alpha Quadrant in their invasion.

2) Was the picture of Columbia in the "Ships of the line", which Mack says was his inspiration, just a random pic or from something established in fiction?

It was original to the Ships of the Line calender series. Star Trek: Destiny represents the first time that this image has been used in the fiction.

4) Plus, this may have been discussed already but Crusher having a kid at what age?

Dr. Crusher was born on 13 October 2324, making her 56 years and 4 months old during Destiny. Not too unrealistic when you consider that women have safely delivered to term in the modern age, and that presumably the medical technology will exist in 400 years to make it possible to carry a fetus to term much later in life.

I'm thinking that the David Mack and the editors probably didn't want to establish too much about Dax between Destiny and the DS9R, in order to leave it more open for the later series to develop on it's own.

The Ascendants were established in the DS9 novel Rising Son by SD Perry. But their motives and methods were further hinted at in Olympus Descending by David R George III ("Worlds of DS9, Book 3").

If David is the writer now doing a new DS9 story, surely he's the best person for that job, and if there are new things to be learned about the Ascendants, even if only in flashback, I'm sure they're in safe hands.

I seem to recall a line in the novel - it was either the first or the second - where it was said that Dax had only been on the Aventine for a few days/weeks before the battle against the Borg at Acamar began and its Captain and First Officer were killed. I know that it was some point in 2380. Memory Beta claims it was Greater than the Sum.

There is a reference in GTTS stating that an "old colleague" of Worf's from DS9 was serving on the Aventine as of the early portion of the novel, which is in late September '80. The destruction of Acamar is in early January '81. So Dax would've had to be aboard the ship for at least three and a half months beforehand.

Not just these days. It's never been unheard of for men to remain fertile into their 70s or even 80s. It's got nothing to do with any modern medical advance, aside from the fact that more men are living that long. Also that lifestyle changes mean that more men and women are putting off childbearing until later in life.
