Did anyone read this novel yet? How is it? Does it start off slow or is it steady?

It's masterful. One of the best Star Trek novels, and Una McCormack's greatest (and keep in mind she's pretty consistently impressive). I can't recommend it highly enough.
In a sense, it retells the unfolding story of Deep Space Nine from the perspective of what's occurring on Cardassia, and it's beautifully told. It rivals A Stitch in Time itself as the definitive Cardassian book.

I pretty much agree with all that Nasat said in his first post. This is a wonderful novel set against the backdrop of the Star Trek universe, especially the DS9 series. I've always felt that it could be read and appreciated by anyone, even those unfamiliar with Star Trek. It touches on a lot of universal themes about the tensions between an ordered society and individual freedom, the importance of familial and societal obligations versus being true to one's own self and values, the nature of governments and power, etc, while telling a great, wide-ranging story featuring fully realized characters. I'd strongly recommend it.
I haven't read A Stitch in Time, so I can't make a comparison there. (But ASiT is definitely on my list to read someday!)

I can relate to you not being able to remember every detail of a book you have read a long time before. I hope that The Neverending Sacrifice is pulished in German, so that I can re-read it. Hopefully with a new cover. There isn't a release date yet, although the book is already in the planning stage. I think there won't be a German version of it until 2017.
Keevan may want to rewatch the DS9 episode with Rugal before reading Neverending Sacrifice, though.
As for the overabundance of Vorta here: the cloning facilities are re-opened. We are expanding....

I'm almost to the point in my backlog of Trek reading to tackle the Never-Ending Sacrifice for the first time and I'm greatly looking forward to it.

Yeah, watching "Cardassians" before starting The Never-Ending Sacrifice is a good idea! Although, if I remember right, Rugal's age as given in the episode does not match up with his age as given at the beginning of the novel.
Some other episodes that I also recall connecting with the novel, either through characters or events are:
"Profit and Loss" (2nd season)
"Second Skin" (3rd season)
"The Way of the Warrior" (4th season premiere)
"In Purgatory's Shadow"/"By Inferno's Light" (5th season)
as well as a general familiarity with the course of the Dominion War arc in seasons 6 and 7.
Although, as I said above, I truly feel one could read the novel with no specific knowledge of DS9 and still appreciate it.
Thanks Stovakory Cardassians is a good ds9 tv show. The never ending sacrifice reminds me of Charles Dickens A tale of two cities. I remember listening to a podcast interview at Trekfm. with Una saying when she originally wrote this book she said it was based on real historical incidents. I wish I could remember what podcast program it was.It's a great interview.

Thank you all for kind words about The Never Ending Sacrifice! Reanok, I've done several podcasts for the guys at Literary Treks - it could be one of those? I was inspired by the postwar history of Germany when writing TNES, but was there anything in particular you were thinking about?
