Star Trek: Countdown Trade Paperback *Trek XI, Comic & Book Spoilers?*

Re: Star Trek: Countdown Trade Paperback *Trek XI, Comic & Book Spoile

^

You make a good point, and I have the feeling that's exactly how this four issue story will play out.

Re: Star Trek: Countdown Trade Paperback *Trek XI, Comic & Book Spoile

I have what may be a stupid question.

I have never actually purchased a comic book before, but I was wondering where to get this. It looks like amazon is only listing the compilation. Will the individual books be available at Barnes and Noble and stores like that, or does one have to go to a comic book store??

Re: Star Trek: Countdown Trade Paperback *Trek XI, Comic & Book Spoile

I don't think Data is appearing post-Nemesis, and I don't think that makes it inconsistent with saying that the comics are set 'post Nemesis'. Small movie spoiler in the tags along with my explanation for why I think why not...

We know that Nero escapes from Rura Penthe before going back in time, something that's been hinted at by the producers and there are some compelling screencaps for from the trailer.

This means that has to be a place where he spent some time, perhaps a prolonged period of time. Nothing says that time served wasn't over the course of the events of Nemesis, and Countdown will cover a longer period of time (so Data would appear in a pre-Nemesis Nero story before his incarceration followed up a later issue which is set after Nemesis and involves Nero's escape and subsequent time travel)

Maybe the first 2 issues are set pre-Nemesis, and the last two are set after Nemesis. That makes the blurb consistent, and the appearance of Data. Nothing says that they have to be one long directly continuous storylines, rather than 4 'episodes' that cover Nero's backstory.

^And, that would be consistent with most of IDW's miniseries style so far.

casey- I would say you need to find a comic book store near you and ask if they can pull the issues for you, or go to a comics wed-store. I like mycomicsshop.com they are very good with new stuff and back issues.

The trade-size graphic novel omnibuses are published to appeal to booksellers, who are unlikely to want to stock the flimsy individual comic issues.

You can usually pre-order individual comic issues in advance at a comic store, if that's how your selected store will do business. Many comic shops offer online ordering. IDW Publishing, being a smaller company than Marvel and DC, often get relegated to the obscure shelves in a bricks 'n' mortar comic shop, or not many are ordered, so don't rely on finding them at a newsstand or loose in a shop.

Or, you wait and pick up the compilation.

You'll have to go to your local comic shop to purchase the individual issues of Countdown. IDW Publishing doesn't have newsstand distribution, so their comics (as opposed to their trades) aren't available at bookstores.

Re: Star Trek: Countdown Trade Paperback *Trek XI, Comic & Book Spoile

^ Even then, though, IDW doesn't seem to get very good distribution with their trades. I can speak only to my expereince, of course, but I've two large (i.e. several stories) Chapters/Indigo bookstores nearby, with fairly generous space for graphic novels, but the recent New Frontier release is the only Star Trek trade paperback I've ever seen stocked. (Not to mention it fells like I've been looking for the post-series Angel trade paperbacks darn near forever.)

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I've never seen any of the Trek TPBs at Borders and Barnes and Noble near me. So far all of the comics I've gotten have been single issues through the local comic shop.

Re: Star Trek: Countdown Trade Paperback *Trek XI, Comic & Book Spoile

Thanks everyone.

I didn't even know we had comic book stores in around here, but now I have found several. I will put this one preorder because I don't want to wait for the TPB.

Re: Star Trek: Countdown Trade Paperback *Trek XI, Comic & Book Spoile

^^Well, despite the authorship of Countdown, it's still a comic book and thus not strictly canonical.....

That is until it is compiled into a trade paperback...

So if it contradicts the books, that's no more disastrous than, say, the Shatnerverse contradicting the other novels. It's just an alternate interpretation.

Noooooooooooooooo.... everything must conform to one interpretation!! :klingon:

I love my comic shop. I got a promo poster for Countdown; it's the promo image, but big. :)

Re: Star Trek: Countdown Trade Paperback *Trek XI, Comic & Book Spoile

Cool. Did you get it for preordering the series, or were they just giving them away?

Re: Star Trek: Countdown Trade Paperback *Trek XI, Comic & Book Spoile

Just giving them away, though I do have the series pre-ordered. They got a couple in this week's shipment.
