Star Trek: Corps of Engineers?

thirteenth

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
I am aware that Pocket Books cancelled their original eBook production, but is there any chance of CoE coming back to print? I know the omnibuses (omnibi?) are still printing, but it's just sad that CoE got cancelled :(...

Even though they were written by many different writers, I thought that the SCE stories were always very high quality. This was my favorite Trek series going, and I was really bummed when I heard it was cancelled. I actually thought that they had a stronger and more entertaining crew than most of the 'real' ones were.

This is why I would like to see collections of Trek short stories just under the general TNG umbrella. Anything in the time period of TNG/DS9/VOY. That way you could have a wide variety of stories about the more popular crews and still have the occasional SCE story or two pop up. This series is too good to die.

For the moment, it's just the omnibuses. Once we run out of those (which won't happen until 2010 at the absolute earliest), then we'll look into the possibility of more new stories.

And thank you both for the kind words. I'm inordinately proud of the series, and it's nice to hear the praise. :)

"On a very special Corps of Engineers... when a terrible blizzard hits the North Pole, the miracle workers at the Starfleet Corps of Engineers must solve the logistical problem of fitting millions of gifts into one sled which must then visit every household around the world in one night, or Christmas will be ruined." (The best scene is the one where Tev tries to play Santa, with Corsi and Abramowitz as his elves.)

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

^ Heh.. Funny I always pictured Tev as the reformed Grinch dropping apple ranchers into all of the children's stockings.

I know the omnibuses (omnibi?) are still printing...

Well, since you asked... ;) It's "omnibuses." In Latin, omnibus is already the dative plural form of omnis, "all." Omnibus as a singular noun is an English word, short for "omnibus edition" in this case, and therefore it's pluralized by English rules.

I have been speeding through some books, destiny is finished, terok nor concluded, all caught up with most other threads, and now I need a new fix.

this might just be it, but where should I start? what would be the first COE stories to start with? I'm more of a print guy, just need that feel of dead trees in my hand.

Thanks for the help, amazon is waiting.

I'd love to see CoE return in some fashion. It was some of the most fun I've had writing Trek. Besides, I still have at least one more Scotty/al-Khaled team-up story I want to do.

And there's always "the Tellarite Story" (which I actually did write...sort of :))

Ideally, yeah, start with the beginning. Here's the full list of books:

Mass market paperbacks under the Star Trek: S.C.E. banner:
Have Tech, Will Travel (2002)
Miracle Workers (2002)
Some Assembly Required (2003)
No Surrender (2003)
Foundations (2004)
Wildfire (2004)
Breakdowns (2005)

Trade paperbacks under the Star Trek: Corps of Engineers banner:
Aftermath (2006)
Grand Designs (2007)
Creative Couplings (2007)
Wounds (2008)

I'd start with the first two, HT,WT and MW, and if you like it, keep going. :)

Start here: http://www.amazon.com/Have-Travel-Starfleet-Corps-Engineers/dp/0743439961

Then see the page on Memory Beta (last section at the bottom) for the titles of the subsequent print compilations.

[Edit: Or just see the list Keith crossposted. Daaaammn you!!!]

All set with Have Tech and Miracle Workers on its way. Right now just need to push through the last bit of Kobayashi Maru, then sit back and wait...

I recently got into the SCE books myself. It's a series I'd definitely recommend - it's got excellent pace, a good deal of action and great characters.

I'm up to the No Surrender omnibus; just finishing up Vanguard, then IKS Gorkon/Klingon Empire is next on my list then I'm diving back into SCE :)

Hope you enjoy it, TigerBait! :bolian:

And for those of you looking for the older dead-tree books, Powells.com usually has good prices. I got up through Wildfire for half-price.

It's great to see the SCE/CoE lovin' going on. I really enjoyed writing my CoE story and had a lot of fun taking the crew on their adventure. And hopefully someway, somehow, that first won't be my last. I still have another da Vinci story to tell, dangit! :D
