Star Trek Con: Las Vegas--Thoughts ?

Hello:

I attended the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas last week and after the event.. I gave it some thoughts/feedback...and wanted to post this and ask for your thoughts:

I have attended many Creation Conventions in the past 2 decades but now I have kids and have some feedback related to bringing kids to the convention.
- I was shocked that Creation doesn't offer kids prices @ this show...just a flat fee for all tickets... every non Creation convention I have ever attended has a kids price; and having 2 kids below age 10-- and to expect to pay a full adult price seems very high.
- There were very few panels (if any) or kids related activities; other than the 1 photo booth and face paining/balloon guy, one short JPL related thing on Sat morning. At Star Wars conventions, they have *dedicated* rooms where kids and work on arts and crafts related to Star Wars.. How about something like that in the future ? at other cons, they have rooms where kids can try out/play video games.. how about a room where kids can play all sorts of Star Trek related video games ? ...4-5 TVs and 4-5 game consoles/PCs...other cons offer in-door laser tag...thoughts ?
- If these conventions are not going to be tailored to kids/offer kids content, pls convey it ..to set expectations//though it hurts franchise in long term imho
- It would be nice to at least recognize some of the wonderful Star Trek Fan Films/allow them to exhibit/promote their work in a way that CBS/Paramount can support..please help make it possible ? I know James Crawley had one panel; but it would have been nice to allow for Star Trek Continues to be there ? Their panel/exhibition @ Silicon Valley Comic Con was great...not every fan film conducts itself like Axnar..

anyone else who went to vegas show has comments/thoughts ? thanks

I just got back from the convention myself and I had a great time minus one thing. The sooner we get rid of the audience Q& A the better. There were three people who asked questions at most if not all panels and it was annoying. There was one who always wears a tie who was called out on his BS twice which was nice.

I didn't thing about the kid thing but you are right. There isn't much for Kids to do and sitting through panels could make them restless. I've only been to creation conventions but it would be nice if they had more family friendly activities. The best part if the convention for me was a Saturday night dinner with friends at Hexx in the Paris hotel. That was special. I also got Shatner and Stewart's autograph and that was special too.

I was there too & know the exact people you're referencing. I feel if they're going to do the Q&A maybe allot everybody a number of tokens or something tied to your registration & once you've used yours your done. That and the disorganized way the entry to the TNG panel was done annoyed me.

Loved the actual panels & felt it was a good breadth of the series & topics. Even went through the Discovery exhibit multiple times.

And the best news, my wife now wants to watch Discovery when it comes on. I can now start my plan to turn her into a fan.

I don't have kids, but I'm surprised organizers of these events aren't more interested in nurturing future generations of Star Trek fans.
